318 coronet, simple job turned nightmare.
I know, I know, we've all done it. This is however the situation.
My baby was running real crappy and even died on me, I'd had troubles with someone trying to steal my fuel pump (OEM mechanical believe it or not.) from her before so I thought that may be the issue agin (They'ed unbolded it previously) anyhow, I checked everything out, nice and tight, I was spitting fuel out the carb so, I figure either the carb or the timing. After giving everything a closer inspection, I'm sure it is the timing chain so I pull her down and sure enough, find a stock "Quiet" style gear/chain set which has seen more than better days.
Anyhow, Turns out the P.O. had tried to cure a leak in the water pump by drilling a bolt between the pump and the timing cover (Wtf?) This wasn't expected so, I ordered a replacement timing chain cover on ebay.
The piece gets here and well... You get what you pay for, the cast was pure crap. I decided to wait for my next pay day and buy the mopar performance cover, Now, I have my cover, my timing set is installed (four degrees advanced.) and I'm damn close, the problem now?
I can't seem to get the oil pan bolts to line up with the bottom of the timing cover, To the point where I need to order a new gasket set because the damn thing dried up as I was trying to get either of the bolts to thread up.
Anyone have any tips on this? I'm seriously considering buying a new oil pan (Noticed moroso makes a nice 8 quart pan. But, it really pains me to think about pulling the pan which has no leaks and works just fine as it is.
anyhow, I need my daily driver back. Have any of you dealt with this before? What'd you do?

Cant help ya with it, but I can empathize. Everything I touched and worked on today went to ****! Robots at work, my roadrunner, I even f$#d up the lawnmower trying to do something simple. I'm afraid to touch the wife tonight! tomorrow will be better, dont give up.

Thanks for the support, I decided to go at and wrench at it again when I'd cooled off (And stopped cussing.) I managed to brute force the cover down hard enough to pin it down, and figured out a part of the problem was the Mopar performance bolt set I'd also purchased. Turns out the old bolts thread in quite a bit easier.
Anyhow, wrench on guys and gals.

Since I had some extra time, and her son had been complaining that his gocart had been throwing the chain, I decided to take care of that. I found the sprockets were just a little misaligned. I took care of that, and decided to test it out. Ran great, no tossed chains, so I started really giving it hell. Here at my place, the paving is older and smoother, and I could do a nice side slide (ya know, top speed, turn the wheel hard one direction and let it slide, Fun huh?). Her blacktop is a much coarser application, VERY good traction, and when I hit the slide, the cart flipped, tossed me out at about 30 miles per hour. Sure ruined my afternoon, and most of the nite.

Not sure how many stitches, but my eye is sewn shut till Thursday, and they'll do a further evaluation then as to whether I need more surgery or not.
I always believed that old saying "You don't quit playing because you grew old, you grew old because you quit playing" but I'm starting to wonder now.... lol too bad I didn't do this closer to Halloween huh?

Is this the bolt at the timing chain? Is there a hole from the head all the way through? That bolt is supposed to be there. You have to make sure you put it back where you found it. that was a specific factory drilled bolt. NOT OPTIONAL. Was not on all year engines but the ones that have it NEED IT!

LOL Naw, never too soon to start making jokes, I was teasing them at the ER as soon as I walked in. And I got the eye opened today. So far I've been telling everyone my GF beat me up (Small gal) but I think I'm going with a "Heidleberg Deuling scar" once it's all healed lol.
And thanks for your thoughtfulness keeping the posts on one side

Good shape 67, I was really lucky. I missed the eye itself, no cut muscles (at least not totally cut), and only one nerve was cut. He got that nerve reconnected, and now I can almost raise that eyebrow, and maybe once the healing is done, I'll have full control. The wound is still draining, and that's a good thing, just messy, and most of the road rash is cleaned up far enough that it lust looks like a light burn. Bacitracin is some good stuff. Monday night I was worried... I was afraid I was going to have to get me a corncob pipe and a sailors hat.

ROFL, I didn't even notice the magnet till you said something. I work for the RR and there are always atty's trying to get us to sue them under FELA. It wasn't posed, it just happened.
Right side of the face. Sometimes I wonder if I need to start walking left side forward, seems something is always happening to my right side. Oh well, I've got 9 lives, I can spare a few, right?
