318-Transmission kickdown linkage

I've got a question I'm hoping someone can answer about the transmission kickdown linkage in regards to how the slider arm should rest. I've attached a picture so you can get a better idea of what I'm looking at. Just put my 318 back together with new intake and carb and trying to get my shift points correct... Any help is appreciated.

Make sure carb is in the hot idle position. (not on the fast idle cam).
In this position, push slotted linkage forward against its stop and adjust until the kick down linkage is just touching the throttle lever pin with no forward pressure. Then after this is done, adjust 1 more turn longer (so slight pressure is on pin).

Thanks for the info! That's what I was thinking. I need to find a longer slotted linkage rod as the stock one is threaded all the way out and is still not anywhere close to being up against the throttle pin. I think I'll head over to home depot and just grab some threaded rod and make it work. Thanks for the info again.
