64 Belvedere brake problem I need help

DEAR SIR,
My name is Len Henning , I own my very 1st car a 1964 Ply. Belvedere . For Christmas my wife and son bought me a new master cylinder kit from Summit. It was the wrong one. We sent it back now they sent me
another . I had it installed . And have no brakes , Talked to Summit they told me that I needed a Elec. vacuumed Pump. So we purchased it . Still no brakes. I had the mechanic call the manufacture of the master cylinder and power booster. Whom told him it too wasn’t for drum brakes which is what is on the car. My wife and son were trying to help me get away from the single cylinder and make it a more safer car. By getting a dual. We’ve had nothing but trouble since. My son change the rubber brake hoses. And still nothing now the mechanic says he called the company and they told him to change the front to Disc. Brakes that’s what master cylinder I now have. Will this cure my problem and if so, what do I need to do the change. I am on Perm. Disability and money is really tight, so I would have to do this using used parts. Can you please direct me in the right direction. Confused and Depressed. Please can you help me to get my car running again…
Sincerely,
Leonard Henning (989) 422-2468

I assume things were working fine for you with the single MC before the switch? And that you bench bled the MC first? If so do like Doc suggested, call NAPA, you can get a new single line MC for a all drum set up for $35 for a reman (power or manual) or $109 for a new ($76 for a new if you have power brakes). Changing over to a duel line with discs will set you back between $1000 and $2500 depends if you use a kit or piece together parts yourself. And switching over to front disks requires that you run with at least 15" rims for caliper clearance, I believe you need a minimum inside diameter of at least 13 5/8" so even some thick walled 15" alloys are too small. so that could set you back even more money. So there is a $35 option or the $3500 option.

I have a 64 and priced everything out a month or so ago. I went with the $35 option.

Hi Challenger,i have a 1965 plymouth Belvedere and just replace the MC also.It is a single mc with a power booster.works perfect ,be sure to bench bleed the mc before you install the mc.Is your booster working properly. The way to check is to turn off the engine and push on the brake pedal,if the pedal is at the top and hard then the booster is working properly.I am not a mechanic but this is how i checked it .You should check with a mechanic ,before useing my advice, just to make sure.Hope i helped you
