70 ROADRUNNER ID

I've been offered a rough but numbers matching 70 Roadrunner.
Thing is, I need to be able to authenticate that it's really a Roadrunner and not just a Satellite.

There's a fender tag and signs of it being a Roadrunner.
What can I look for that will positively identify this car as a Roadrunner????
Will the fender tag decode as Roadrunner and not just Satellite for example.....???

I need something that I can do easily at the sellers place.

Any help here please..????????

Post the VIN number and fender tag and we'll help you.

Or go here for VIN decoder: http://www.mymopar.com/decoder.htm

Or look here on Year One for more on VINs: http://roadtrip.yearone.com/2009/10/...-decoding.html

And here is a fender tag decoder: http://www.mymopar.com/index.php?pid=87

If it's a 70, the 6th number of the tag will be a 0.
The 1st number will be an R, this denotes Belve, Sat
And for a Road Runner in 1970 the tag will have to have an M in the third position.

Many thanks Morrigan and Polara.

So, if I'm looking at a 1970 RR with a 383 the tag should read:
RM23L0.......something. Correct.....???

If it starts RL, RP or RH I'm buying a Satellite of some description.....???

The vin should read :
RL21 Belvedere 2Dr Sedan 67 - 70
RH23 Satellite 2Dr Hardtop 67 - 70
RH27 Satellite Convertible 67 - 70
RM21 Road Runner 2Dr Coupe 68 - 71
RM23 Road Runner 2Dr Hardtop 68 - 74
RM27 Road Runner Convertible 69 - 70
RP23 Sport Satellite 2Dr Hardtop 66 - 70
RP27 Sport Satellite Convertible 66 - 70
RS23 GTX 2Dr Hardtop 67 - 71
RS27 GTX Convertible 67 - 69

The fifth digit will be the engine code
6th digit is model year (should be 0)
7th digit is assembly plant code
last 6 digits are sequential serial number

OK Got it.
Many thanks.
I'll let you know how I got on.

One last thing:
From the pics that I have, I can see that it has a column shift. Would a Roadrunner have come with one of these???

Just to update:
I never even got to eyeball that pesky RR.
The guy phoned me up to cancel as he'd gotten a "better offer".
At least I saved a four hour drive................

Sorry about the loss. Sometimes you win, sometimes you don't.

There's more out there!

Dashboard, fender tag, drivers door, stamped into the radiator support, stamped into the trunk rail, and possibly stamped into the package tray. there are probably more places but I can't think of them right now.
