Aluminum intake- lower heat and stop vapor lock

Hey guys- does anyone know is replacing a stock intake manifold on a 1967 gtx with an aluminum edelbrock performer rpm will reduce heat enough to stop vapor lock? I'd put a one inch phenolic spacer under the carb but hood clearance is tight....are there better intakes for reducing heat? They don't make an RPM Air Gap for 440's....

If you need a new manifold to solve vapor lock, there is an underlying problem. How long has the vapor lock issue been happening?

Gonna have to go with Matt on this one. An Aluminum intake and/or an insulating spacer will give a cooler air/fuel charge, but the odds are that's not what's causing vapor lock. Even if it helped, it would be sort of a band-aid fix. Check the routing of the fuel lines or any thing that looks like a hot spot first.

Hate to add this, but make sure it's actually vapor lock.

If you're sure that it, try an insulating spacer first, if you have hood clearance.

The idea that an aluminum intake magically "runs cooler" is not correct.

IN FACT they may well run hotter than cast. The heads are the source of the heat, and aluminum conducts heat much better than cast iron.

the big block dodge manifold is stock as a "air gap" design. they are raised off the valley pan like the cheb "air gap",

vapor lock usually starts in the fuel filter. too big of a filter, next to a high heat source

Have to agree about the aluminum intake. On my 440 cuda after making a pass you can't touch the intake, way hot! Try insulating the fuel lines by the engine. If using headers the ceramic coating makes a big difference for under the hood temps.

Thanks for the replies...so I posted months ago with a similar question. What are some of the more underlying issues you mention may be lurking?
