68 RR-- wanna slide bench seat back more, but will not go. If I could go just one more notch I'd have more leg room. I'm 5'9" but still cramped. Anyone else have this problem?

 

Not to my knowledge. Are you sure nothing is jammed in the seat tracks such as toothpicks or dirt?

I'm a bit on the hefty side and even with the bench pushed all the way back, I still feel a bit cramped

And the school bus steering wheel doesn't help much either.

As it is, I have to cover the brake with my left foot cause when I drive with my right foot only, my knee hits the wheel every time I switch pedals


I know there has to be a fix for this since the majority of Mopars owners I see at the car shows are usually bigger than I am lol

 

I'm going strictly from memory here since the last bench seat car I had was in '89 but seems like it had a little higher seat bottom than the buckets. That was a '69 RR, I'm pretty short legged but I also would hit my leg on the steering wheel when going from gas to brake, didn't have that issue in my second '69 that had bucket seats. No problem with either car using the clutch though. Small potatoes compared to a friend of mine, boy's 6'6" if an inch, has a '73 Cuda 340 4 speed. Hilarious watching him drive, he can't put his hands at 10 and 2 because his knees are at 9 and 3; he has to move his left leg to use the turn signal!

 

Mine is good at 6'1. Ya'll must have automatics. I hadda scoot the seat way up to mash the clutch down to the floor.

 

Well there is adjustments at the bottom on most seat brackets. It shouldn't make that much of a difference. Some cars also had two sets of holes in the floor about 3 inches apart for the seat location as well. If you look underneath the car you can see where the 5 1/6 stud comes through the floor with the wide washer on it. If there is a second set of holes about 3 inches behind where it is you can move the seat back that far. Not usual though.

If you have adjustable brackets you may need to unbolt the seat to get at them. The lower bracket will have small flat carriage bolts with nuts on the inside there is a groove on them about an inch long with an L shape going down for adjusting seat height.
