carburetion issues.

so my car went from sitting for 10 years and maybe being driven once a year to me driving it everyday and as expected things are falling apart. it has a carter 2 barrel and today it started acting up. it won't idle when i stop but then it will level out after a few seconds and when i gt on it it cuts out really bad. i adjusted the timing and the space between the points but that fixed nothing. any ideas?

Try running the engine at fast idle 2500 and operate the choke a few times while keeping the idle fast. Check fuel flow! Check the ign timing and the timing advance. Check the carb - Remove the mixture screws and spray carb cleaner in the recess. Check the Accelerator pump and float level..
Still not working ?? Soak the carb in cleaner & rebuild it..

Ten years is a long time for a carb, especially one that "has been sitting." I'd suggest the carb is simply getting gunked up inside. Find the carb no. and get yourself a carb kit, and clean it out.

What year model? Do you have a factory shop manual?

Well I figured out the problem. Plain and simple it needs to be rebuilt. The accelerator pump is shot, the gaskets are rotted, and it's full of gunk. And it's a 69, I don't have a manual though.
