True, I also racked my back yesterday when lifting a jeep block out of a jeep on a trailer, and then stepping down about a foot, that's what I get for ignoring my project for a few minutes.

No work done today, however I did get to tell Vic Edelbrock about the parts in my car, and ask why the bolt holes for the intake in the heads are not heli coiled as I stripped a few of them, he thought they were, so if you guys see them put heli coils in there you can thank me. Also got some new plugs Accel makes with Ceramic boots, so I stop melting through them.

I did mess with some of the brackets yesterday, but not too much else.

[quote=Commando;10770]So I got back to work and put the adjustable rockers in (from 440 source) and put the valve covers on. Also found the piece that holds the throttle cable, could have forgotten it and had some issues.

What is the benefits to adjustable rockers?

I have no idea, I just know the engineer over at Edelbrock said that I had to have them for the heads I was using.

you can use any length of pushrod and it'll be because you can set the shaft according to the rods

Been a little while, just got back to working on the project. Today I got the radiator in, filled the trans, put in the alternator, wrapped the wiring harness, mounted the carb and hooked up the linkage.

I have decided to wrap the headers as there is going to be a lot of heat under the hood, I will also put a heat shield on the starter and pump. Almost done have to hook up the rest of the hoses put the fan and shroud on, swap out the ignition wires, fuel lines, ac, and fill engine with coolant.

All minor things, just have to wait for there to be less customers in the shop.

Got the engine started today, broke in the cam, and it sounds awesome. Just need to pull and wrap the headers, swap in the new wires with the ceramic boots, and put on the heat shields. Waiting for Lokar to call me back, trying to find out if they can put a flexible oil dipstick together for me as it is extremely difficult to put on in with the mounts on.

Also have to figure out if the new air cleaner setup I am putting together will fit under the hood. Also will be picking up the 9 1/4 rear tomorrow.

So the 9 1/4 I went to pick up turned out to be another 8 1/4. I bought the one out of Nebraska and got it today, stripped the brakes off and will put it back together tomorrow, also has a blown axle seal.

I wrapped the headers, put the heat shield on, and got another dipstick and bent it to fit. Just a couple more things to do to the engine before I declare it complete; ensure the steering shaft is clear of obstructions, swap the wires, set the timing to be where it will stay, put the K&N filter top together, and make sure there is adequate trans fluid.

How much fluid does the 727 trans hold? I think I put 7 quarts in there and it does not register on the dipstick.

There will be updated pictures soon too.

Was going to take some yesterday, but it had to rain, and today being Easter my buddy closed his store, so it'll have to wait to tomorrow.

I moved it around a bit so we could move stuff around on the concrete, and the car jumps when I let off the brakes, despite the 2400 stall converter I put on it. The rear shouldn't take too long as we should have all the parts in stock. I can't wait to take it on the road.

Tranny might hold as much as 10 quarts.
Put in 8 quarts for the initial fill then start the car and put in another quart while the engine is idling. After it warms up a bit, check the dipstick and top it off. Sometimes 9 quarts will do

Ok, thanks, the Chevy guy I keep bringing up says to put 12 in, the manual I got says 6, but I know I have at least 7 maybe 7.5.

Yeah the different size convertors make the actual amount hard to judge. Like a high stall versus a low stall but usually its less than 10. I just buy a case of fluid especially if ya drain the convertor. [727] Then you got some extra.

I already have an exhaust setup from when I switched the 400 over to headers. It is either 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 pipe with Magnaflow mufflers and tips, it sounds real mean. It is true dual exhaust and the pipes run the same path as the old true exhaust setup from when I got it and the pipes come out the back.

If it stops raining I will post some more pictures, I keep promising, but every chance I get it's raining.

Hi commando.nice car and engine set up.I read the article about the head bolts. Please do not use the old head bolts ,that is a no no ,after they have been used they are stretched and will not tourque properly and you will blow a head gasket sooner or later..I still dont know how to add the pics of my car .LOL

So I will start with some pictures of the engine in the car.

Still have yet to switch the plug wires, and I also have a K&N filter top for the air cleaner. Need to rewire the AC, and have a new master cylinder so ignore all that rust.

Here is what I was doing today. Wire brushed the 9 1/4, then used the self etching primer, and then used low gloss engine paint, looks really good.

Not sure if I mentioned this but I had to pull the aluminum water pump housing from 440 source as the water neck was rotated and could not bolt up my AC. So they said they do not expect people to use AC, but the guy I talked to agreed with me about having it, so I think they should alter it to be like the stock unit.

Hopefully get the rear bolted up tomorrow, got new air shocks as the old ones don't hold the pressure as well. Also need to change the timing so it runs smoother.

I've heard of this too, and if you think about it...it can. All metal can stretch...it's just a matter of how and when it will fail.

Don't worry about the head bolts, I used a set of ARPs.

I had the lower end assembled at my buddy's friend's machine shop, he has been in the business awhile and assume that if he didn't balance it he is an idiot and would be out of business. So I hope its balanced.

I have to finish tuning it, but it seems rather smooth, until any gas is given to it.
