Electronic conversion on 66 318 poly
I'm confused...I've searched this forum and it didn't help me so thus the post.....why do some conversion kits have the distributor included? Can I change from points to Elec. (petronix Ignitor II $89) with just the stuff that goes inside the dist cap??? I've seen some posts where the coil needs to be replaced along with other stuff......I have just the basic stock 318 poly that I can't seem to get the points adjusted correctly to give me the dwell I need.....your wisdom and advice is appreciated

I have the Mopar Performance. Summit has their own with some Mopar components. Wiring is simple, heres links to ignition kits and wiring diagrams.

Conversions are simple enough, rather than buy the aftermarket kits, I simply go to a junkyard and get the distributor and box there. Make sure to get the ballast resistor as well. If you go to a self-serve type junkyard, you should be able to get everything you need for less than $30.
Your current distributor probably has worn bushings, so it won't keep a consistent gap. When looking at junkyard replacements, make sure that there isn't excessive play in the distributor shaft.
With the correct parts (distributor, computer, ballast resistor and some a little extra wire) the conversion should only take 30 minutes or so. A new coil isn't really necessary, provided your old coil is in decent shape.

Heree is a question
OK i bought a 65 satellite with Electronic dist, upgraded coil but I thought it was suppose to be upgraded to the Orange control box as well? Am I wrong? It does not have the control box on it...
