In response to the message I got and couldn't respond to:
I had headers in the Cordoba when I had the 400 in it, just reinstalled them with the 440 but needed some minor modification with the pipes hitting the power steering and starter as the Edelbrock heads are a bit wider.
As for the modifications to the shift linkage, I will take a picture next weekend of it, not a big deal. It basically is a piece of threaded rod that can now be easily adjusted.

The Edelbrock heads do have the angled plugs, but when I had them on the 400 it was closer with the stock heads to the pipes. I don't have the steering shaft in at the moment as I plan to put the heat shielding on the starter and power steering. I am using 90 degree plug boots so it shouldn't be an issue, I also have the long studs on the valve cover so that helps to run the spark plug wires. I used some no name brand from Summit, and they don't even have the Cordoba down as an application, even though it is on the instruction sheet it came with.

Ok thanks, i ve heard of guy having probs. w/ the edy heads if they run a stock high flow manifold. the plugs hit the manifold themselves. A budy told me something of intrest the other day, he has a 83 dodge 2 ton dump trk. and he changed the starter in it, the round body part of the starter on his truck ws half the length of a stock 1 its a 360 4 spd trk. he asked the parts guy to cros ref the #`s and see if it would fit a 440 and it will . maybe this may give you a little more room for the headers.
I have a high torque starter from a Durango, and it is still fun to mess with, it is much easier to install while the header is in place but not bolted in. However I had to pull it after I attached the exhaust to the header, and that requires some thought and playing around with it. The key is to remove the extra piece that the wires attach to, the one that looks like a step, as that causes major problems when trying to turn it into place.
I don't have the manifolds any more so I don't know how it would work, but can assume that there could be issues, but I do use the shorty header plugs, otherwise it would be impossible to get the boot on them.

I was going to take a picture for you yesterday of the shift linkage, but the weather was real bad and I didn't get a chance. The rod is bolted into the below picture, there used to be an arm that came out of this. That is most of the mod that was done.
Ok the modified piece looks simaler to the shift arm from a hurst shifter for a b-body. but the end of the tab where the small holes at isnt out as far, ths was to clear the trans cooler lines for the aftermarlet shifter, did you modify it for this reason also or for header clearance?
I didn't take that picture, found it online, whichever one that had the bushing and arm on it.

This picture shows where the column shifter comes down and goes to the bracket that shifts the trans and the bracket attached to the trans.
