How to buy parts

Hey all.... So a couple of years ago my wifes father passed and left her 2 Mopars. One is 64 Sport Fury Automatic with a 383. The other is the one I have questions about. Its a 65 Satellite with a 4 speed and a 440. Obviously the 440 did not come in that car. Im needing to replace the starter so I was wondering if anyone could steer me in the right direction to find any engine numbers that will tell me what year the motor is. Then lets say I get that far and just for a example its a 1965 440......................How would I go about buying parts since anywhere you go Autozone Advance Oreileys is going to need to know year, model, make, motor size, color of paint and my first childs middle name?
Thanks and any help or advice would be appreciated!!

A starter for a 383 will be the same as a 440.
There is a flat pad on the front of the intake to the RT of the distributor, clean the pad and there will be numbers and letters that decode the 440.
