Need advice on 360 crate install

I am installing a 360 crate engine in a 1968 coronet. The original engine was a 318. I only have 3 1/2 inches between the radiator and the water pump. I am not sure if the engine is sitting to far forward or if this is normal. The fan will not fit and not a lot of room for an electric fan either. Has any one ran into this problem and what can I do.

One solution would be to use the "early" water pump which is shorter (273) but the lower outlet is on the other side---I'm surprised your old 318 isn't on the opposite side of the 360??

If you do this, you'll have to build your own timing marks--not really all that difficult. The early 273 engines had the timing mark/ pointer over on the passenger side.

I put a 360 in my 67 Dart, and managed to shoehorn a clutch fan onto it, but there's only about 3/8-1/2" between the front of the clutch and the radiator. I'll probably change it rather than risk contact.

You sure you have the mounts located properly? Did the transmission rear mount locate with no fuss?

The engine is the 360 magnum crate. The mounts are for the 360 that I bought from Schumachers. The trans mounted up properly I think (the engine was out for over ten years) and I think I have the mounts mounted properly but I'm not real sure. I have the mount to the rear of the ears on the block if that makes any sense.

I have a Magnum and LA timing covers with water pumps on the bench right now both standard types with passenger side rad hose. The LA pulley flange is 2" higher (longer) than the Magnum. Whenever I forget which side of the block ears the mounts go on I start at the trans mount and see where they fit, although it has been stock type swaps. Some styles of trans mounts can be 180ed and move the attachment point forward or back.
Is it a 4 speed or 3 speed trans? I have to say the trans mount is the place to start. If it is original trans and driveshaft I'm lost.
