prepurchase 1970 coronet 500 advice please
Hello all 1st time post- but many to come if I purchase this Coronet. I have not seen it and will go to look at it in the next day or 2...
Car is as follows, 1970 Coronet 500- 75k documented original miles, 383 2bb original motor/trans 8.25 rear-end. Center consol and bucket seats.
complete original car down to the airconditioning - all lights and signals work, trunk and glove box included. factory vinyl top- removed to check for rust- none stated. solid floors, trunk floor has been tacked in but not complete due to previous rotted, also rear section directly between rear window and trunk. Solid driver tracks strait down the road, stops, etc... the guy thinks the valve cover gaskets have never been off and sayd there are very minor drips but says it runs out strong.
WP23L0G197744, I already broke it down and seems to match what seller is saying. He thinks that it has never been wrecked also and says all chrome/ trim is there and strait- also says it needs restoration, but can be a rough driver. Oh yeah, new fuel tank, lines, and rebuilt or new holly 2bb carb.
He is asking $7500- and is negotiable.
please be frank and honest with your opinions knowing that I am on a beer budget with champagne taste... (read, wanting a 383 solid driver charger SE, but able to afford a Coronet of this caliber.)
I want to drive the car for a couple years slowly fixing, and after a couple years break it down for a full restoration. I am a bit of a purist when it comes to originality, but I do like to put the pedal down and burn gas!!! so the 2bb car is not what I desire but a few minor upgrade with taste, and keeping the original parts available...
thoughts are greatly appreciated!

Here is a pic.
Oh yeah he said the only rust is in the rear frame rail by the bumper and also stated that with the purchase comes solid 1970 coronet superbee replacement frame rails, not sure if there is a difference in superbee or not but that is what he said...

The car came from california and I am in the carolina's- It has been here for 4 years and it is about an hour away from me- not a bad drive, and the seller said he would trailer it to my house even though I would rather drive it!!!
What do you think about it?

Sorry, forgot where I was at {im new to this too}. Any who, i think it might be a little bit high on the price but youve got to consider how much money you are going to save because you wont have to do that much bodywork. Now days i advise to put the money in on the front end of the deal {i mean starting with something decent with little rust}. If you look at it right, this car might be a better deal than a 70 charger that needs a bit of body work. Also, im partial to that front end design on that car. You've got to admit that was a wild looking body style.
My friend runs a body shop out here in Omaha and I just cant get over how much it costs to restore a car with rust in it. He kind of specializes in mopars so I know how much it can add up to.
Just my 2 cents worth but i really like it, especially if the guy selling is on the up and up.

My 20 cents worth, get it up on a lift to check out underneath. Decode the fender tag and see if everything matches, do a compression test, while its on the lift look at the rear end etc etc.
If everything checks out and most importantly you're happy, see if $5000 works.

It looks good, but not $7500 good. Have you had a chance to actually drive it at all? Hear it run? Like Polar said, give it a really good looking over.
The final price of what you deicde to offer the guy is all up to you. What its worth to one person doesn't mean its going to be worth that to everyone else.

Thanks for the input, exactly what I was looking for...
I don't want to get ripped off as in if hard times fall on me... which is around every corner now-a-days. I thought $7500 was kinda steep, but again I have not seen the car, and will go look at it. If it was $5k, I would most deff buy it if all is as described...
I like the honest answers of I would pay this or that for it... and I do not really want to do tons of body work right now, but don't really mind when I do a complete frame off in a couple years... it is a cool car though! and I love the brown paint! like a 70's porno shoot!!! Just gotta find the other participants ! ha ha

ha ha on the frame off! I have done others, but never a mopar- unless you want to count a Jeep, and once I did the same car 2xs 10 years apart- YIKES. but it was fun, and the second time it was done right!!!
I will need the luck... if I get the car. If it is a good driver for a couple years and he will come down on price then I will be killin bugs with the brown bomber! Gonna try and make it out to see it tomorrow! I can't wait to see it!
