Pulling the tranny!!!???
Pulling the tranny!!!???
Ok Guys!
How esay is it to pull a 727 Big block from the car without pulling the engine. All I have is a floor jack and jack stands, can it be done?
Second coverting from a 64' 727 to a 68', besides the shifter and kickdown linkage is everything else pretty much the same, I know the 64' has diffrent valve body eetc!
And how esay is it to rebuild a 68' 727?

Thanks Scott,
REad your reply then it vanished? The floor jack and jack stands are for the car while getting the tranny out, can it be done without pulling the engine as well. I have a budy with a snowmobile lift that I was going to hit up when the time comes.
Thinking Just pulling and rebuilding the 64' tranny, and not trying to convert a 68' unless a 440 is in front of it!

your going to need to lift the car about 24 inches, put the jack stands on the diffs not the frame so you can increase the height. first take off the cars drive shaft. then undo the lines going to the tranny. and don't forget the shift cables and acceleration cable. next you will want to take out the starter. take the fly wheel cover off and unbolt the torque converter, you will need to turn the crank shaft to do this. next you might want to stick another floor jack to hold up the engine so it doesn't slant \ like that when you take it off. use a jack and piece of wood or a transmission cradle and put it under the pan. unbolt the bolts and screw to the engine. then the tail shaft bring the engine back towards the rear of the car remove the torque converter. the rest is a little bit tedious. but shouldn't take longer then 2 hours
they make transmission jack adapters if you are interested

I pulled one out of my 69 Coronet. Mister, that is one heavy transmission.
We also did it with a floor jack and wood blocks. More room under the car the better. But you have to consider your reach too, lying on your back or on a creeper.
Make sure you have Strong help, mark the cooling lines, don't cut them one patch them back together with hose
