ya, when you try to rush things, that is when you make mistakes
when i was putting my engine back together, i forgot the oil slinger behind the timing cover. so, i had to take it all back off and the gaskets ripped but, at least i caught myself before i put my engine back in

I read about the oil slinger, but did not see one when I pulled the cover off, which was the first time off since 77 I believe. I will be pulling it off so I can put one in if need be, all I changed or saw in that area was the oil seal in the cover.

it fits right on the cover

Nope didn't have that in my engine, I will look into getting one, but it makes me think if it ever had one.
