Shackles

Hi all,
The 70 RR I got last summer has shackles on it. They are not original, that much I know, and one side is starting to bend. I know the car never came with this much lift from the factory. What I would like to know is did they come with shackles at all?

What you have are 'extended shackles' to provide lift.
You could replace these with the standard length shackle.

Yes, I plan on taking them off before spring when the car goes back on road. But what I need to know is what to replace them with. Did they even come with shackles, albeit, shorter ones. Or, did they come with no shckles? I need to know that so I can get it back to as original as I can.
Thanks,
Marty

The stock ones are about 5" overal length and 3 1/2" center to center.

Yes, the car came with shackles. They are very easy to change too, so it won't be a major job.

Thanks for the replies. I just wanted to confirm that they did indeed come with shackles, just not the monstrosities someone put on the car. Will only cost me a case of beer to get changed. My mechanic is a Mopar, and beer, nut.

You need to have a shackle on a leaf spring in order for them to compress/extand properly. As the spring compresses/extends, the over all length changes. The only way for the leaf to act like this is the have a shackle on it. If it did not have a shackle, then the leafs would not compress/extend, the ride would be terrible and you could tear the spring hangers off the car or worse.
