1967 Plymouth Fury III Transmission Slipping
Hi guys,
My automatic 67 Fury is slipping between 2nd and 3rd gear, meaning it revs higher for 3 or 4 seconds as it makes the change. Then we continue on down the road just fine. The change between 1st and 2nd gear is as normal. I just changed all fluids including transmission but no improvement as a result.
Any ideas what may cause this? Am i in for rebuild or is there adjustment i can do?
Thanks as always!
Rich

Rich, Try the band adjustment first. Check out one of the services manuals. Its not hard to do and it might just be what the problem is. If not, Then I would say "your in for a freshen up"
Just out of curiosity? did you use Dexron-2 or Ford Type-F when you did the change?

Thanks Bob - i have the service manual so i'll look in to it this week. Is it a big job to get to? I'm no pro mechanic but i'll tinker! I actually had the oil change done as they were putting new tires on and i don't know what oil they used - could it be a mismatch with one of those types?
Thanks again, I'll let you know how i do.

No. Its not a hard job...
Just thought I would ask... Sometimes folks dont think about what fluid that might be installed in the trans. So I was just asking. but if ya dont know, will just deal with the issue at hand...
Hope its not to hot out in that desert today....lol Stay cool and hydrated...
