i recently rescued a 69 sport fury convertible and i am doing a brake job on it after replacing calipers, hoses, master cylinder, bleed the brake lines after i depress the brake the calipers stay depressed its not until i force them in with a screw driver that they free the wheel my only suspicion since both the left and right side are seized is that my proportional valve is shot but i cant find any where that has that part any ideas?

 

it's below the master om the frame and has a lot of lines going into it.

did you bleed the rear brakes too?

does the new master have the same sized fluid compartments as the old one?

why did you change the master?

 

it seems like its the same its not as deep as the old one but there the same foot print i changed it b/c i thought that it was seized up and the inside of it was flacking does the power brake booster have an adjustable rod?

 

yes, it does have a rod but rarely needs to be adjusted.

i had a 68 chrysler 300 with front disk. what the part store sent did not match what i had. their books indicated that my old master was for drum brakes. my old master had equal sized compartments which i've only seen on drum brake cars.

if you open the line to the front brakes and they release, i'd blame the master.

 

well the weird thing is when i open the lines the calipers dont release do you think in some freak coincidence both my calipers are bad?

 

well, without fluid pressure they should release! that would leave out anything but the calipers. we are talking opening the bleeders, correct?

just how much do the drag? can you spin a wheel by hand?

 

yes i am opening the bleeders to release the pleasure. Do you think that my brand new calipers could be bad i can get them from the local car parts store so its easy to do. no i cant turn the rotors by hand. hmm

 

when you open a bleeder on one side does it release the pressure on both wheels?

can you try that master to see if its as bad as you thought? how did this car stop before you started replacing things?

 

No when i open it it dosnt release pressure at all neither wheels.

before i started replacing things it stoped like sh*t when you depressed the brake it was either closed or open there was no gradual pressure on the rotor it was all or nothing aka the cars weight shot forward if you taped the brake very jerky.
