65 Fury Door Latch

65 Fury Door Latch
I have a problem with my 65 fury rear door latch sticking. I have to hold the handle and ram into the door with my shoulder to make the door open!
If I hold the door open, I can turn the sprocket while holding the door button or the inside lever. It clicks into place when I let go (like it should). If I shut the door very gently, it opens like normal. If I shut it normally (harder, but still not a slam or anything...) it sticks.
It is driving me nuts. Any ideas?

Anytime. Actually, that sounds like you may have a seized backing plate inside there. It should move more than that. Basically it's about a 1/4 plate that's drilled for the striker, and that's maintained against the inside by a few flaps of metal folded over it, letting it slide up and down as well as in and out. Next time you have your inner panels off in the back, spray some good penetrant in there. If you have to adjust it again, you may have to pull those panels and spray it, then tap the striker gently to break it loose for it's full travel.
