67 Monaco
67 Monaco
Hey Guys,
i just bought a 1967 Monaco 383/727 that is in pretty good shape, its only major needs are brake hoses (got em) and a gas tank.. on rock auto i found a tank for $360 shipped, is that a good deal? i am looking for a filler neck too but cannot find anything, as well as the rear axle seal, i have a few leads...but is there a place that is good to find this kind of stuff?
Thanks
Tom

u may be able to save a little money by removing the gas tank thats on it now and having it boiled out and relined if neccesary. i had this done on my 67 sport fury...they boiled it out and found a few holes they had to patch then they relined it and it cost me $210. just call around to your local radiator shops and talk to the guys and tell em what you need.

when i dropped the tank i noticed there are two lines that are plugged (im guessing the vents) which makes me think that this is not the original tank and they ordered one without vents....is this a bad thing? im guessing it worked fine up until now, but either way we will see!
I totally agree with bigsho, try and save everything you can. I know on my 67 fury, there are two lines coming out of the tank besides the fuel sender line. One is a return/vent line to the filler tube and the other is, i believe, another vent line possibly called an "atmospheric" vent line. While I can't be certain, if Chrysler put em in, then they prolly have a good use. Venting the vapors sounds like a good idea to me. Anyway, If you just have to get a new tank, get those vents on it and check out boneyards and the web for a good deal. But if you got the
to go new, do it! Replace the fuel sender too if ya can afford that as well. Good luck!

i found a radiator shop 20 minutes from me who will take care of the rust. leaks, seal it and paint it for $120 . not a bad deal! i will install a new sending unit as well. now i need to find those pesky wheel seal...what should i be looking for when i inspect the axle, since it has been leaking for a while.
when u drop the tank...try to save the j-bolts...i dont know where u live but here in central iowa they are non existant. i looked everywhere locally and had no luck...i am an assistant manager of a napa store and like to think i am pretty decent at finding hard to find parts buts these little babies were impossible to find locally. i had to order mine out of new jersey from an online source and they werent cheap. also...u may look into replacing the piece of card board insulation stuff that sits between the tank and the trunk floor. mine was pretty brittle after 42 years..lol.
so the tank is out, the inside looks pretty clean, i will take it to the repair shop on monday. where can i locate the "cardboard stuff"? it seems as if there was nothing there to begin with. i was planning on replacing the fuel sending unit, all of the auto parts stores around have them for $100, im guessing thats fair? pep boys has it in stock, so i might as well replace it while i am in there... i am also replacing the rubber lines going into the metal lines... anything else i should look at while im down there?
my tank has 4 vents, they go into a "junction box" and two lines go to the front of the car and it looks like someone put screws in the end, should i take these out?
