'68 Fury Tire Size?

You'd think that I'd be able to find info on such an easy inquiry, but it's harder than I thought.

What was the stock tire size on a '68 Fury? Anyone know? I'm GUESSING 235/75/14, but that could be wrong.

I believe the modern day equivalent would be 225 75 14 however, that size has been discontinued.

Ah! Thanks man! :)

I can answer this!

The original tires on a '68 Fury, with drum brakes is 7.75 x 14 which translated into G78 x14 which translates into 215/75/14.

A 225/75/14 is the equivalent of an H78 x 14 or an 8.25 x 14.

Furys with optional front disc brakes, received 8.25 x 15 when new and had to have 15" wheels to clear the front brake caliper.

Wow, that's a nice breakdown--thanks! :)

Awesomely enough, when I called the local Goodyear tire (getting used 14s is a thing of the past, apparently), the associate and his father were major old car buffs, and he put me in a 215/75/14! What are the chances?

Thanks a lot, Silverick! :)

Thanks a lot, Silverick! :)

I drove a '68 Fury III with skirts, like yours for 14 years. It was my dad's car new, then my mom's, then mine. I lowered mine, like yours and put in a '69 383 Magnum with a cam, Torker, etc. and my Fury, with the stock freeway gears would go, by the speedometer... 70mph in low, 102mph in 2nd and when you shifted to drive....... I had the needle pointing at the "P" (for Park). I sold it in about 1990:( I just bought another '68 last Saturday. This one's a 4 door, with skirts and 95,000 original miles. B5 blue with a white vinyl top.

WOW cool! Do you have pics online of it? I'd like to see it!

Yea, my Fury is keeping the 318, but it's getting a nice "tune up" if you will. I expect 300 horses on the low side, about 330 on the high side. That will be plenty to get the bomb rolling a little quicker. I like torque, though, way more than horses.

I may on my Facebook page. If I find it I'll post it here. Did you see the pictures of my 4 door?

Skwerly 08-17-2010 01:50 PM

Yea, that's the one I mean. Haha. Now that I think of it, I did see that one. I need more coffee. :D

My '68 Fury

OMG! That is a BYOOOOOOOTIFUL ride! Sniff. It reminds me of the day I got mine, way back in '94. I really like the four doors on yours--very usable! I got so tired of getting my lazy butt out and lifting the seat so friends could get in. :D

I really like that ride! It's in wonderful shape! Thanks for posting it! :)

Thanks, Skwerly! I took her for a ride to Baker Beach/Ocean Beach/Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, yesterday.... with all of the windows down... and really had a good time with her! lol I had some Flows installed a couple of weeks ago and it woke her up a bit:). I like the way that your Fury sets but..... I'm too old for that now:(.

Haha, I hear that man! I've been working on mine. Engine is ready to pull and be rebuilt, replaced the bent up back bumper, cleaning the interior, etc. Quite an undertaking, but i cannot WAIT to drive it again! :D

It looks REALLY nice. I started removing mine the other day, and found that you have to take the quarter panel end cap things off in order to get to one of the bolts.

When I get the new one completely on I'll post before/after pics. I cannot wait to see all that unbent-up chrome on there. :D

My fury has stock type tires on it and stock wheels they are 225r/70/14. They are the Bf Goodrich and are still being made.

I believe I finally compromised and slapped on 215/70/14s. They sure look better than those 205s. :D
