In another thread, I posted some info about a 1964 Chrysler Newport 4-door with 14K miles that we came into possession of. Unfortunately, we cannot find the keys. So I'd appreciate some suggestions on a plan of action. I also have a few questions:

• Are the door and ignition keys the same but the trunk is different? If so, is the ignition or door lock cylinder is easier to remove?
• Is there a chance the key code is stamped on the lock cylinders? If so, any chance of snaking a borescope in there to spy it?
• To remove the trunk lock cylinder, do I remove the rear seat to get into the trunk?
• Assuming I take the lock cylinders to a locksmith, should I have some key blanks on hand, or are the 1964 blanks pretty common?
• I see rockauto sells lock cylinders. Would buying new lock cylinders be a good option?

Without seeing the Ignition location I would pull the door lock cylinder and you will have to pull a back seat to get the trunk lock open to remove trunk cylinder.
Having the door and trunk cylinders your locksmith can make your new keys. He should have key blanks they just will not look OEM.

IF it's the same as 70's issue cars, the doors and ignition should be the same (pentagon) and the glove box and trunk (round) should be the same.
If you want it to look original, blanks should be available on eBay and frim resto shops.
I got two pair from eBay for $10 a few years back.

If they aren't the same as the 70's stuff, can't help ya.

I've done some more research and the door and ignition keys are the same while the trunk is different. So my plan of action is to remove the door panel and check if the lock cylinder has a code on it and if so then see if a local locksmith can make a set of keys. Otherwise I'll remove the lock cylinder and take that to the locksmith. For the trunk, I'll have to remove the back seat to open the trunk and do the same with that lock cylinder. I'll try to get some key blanks on ebay. It looks like the key blanks changed in 1966 so I'll have to get 65 and earlier blanks.

 

If i were at your place, i would definitely go for and had new set of keys from them.
