New Member in Southern California / '68 Sport Fury

Hello everyone! I had NO clue there was a C Body forum out there, or I'd have been here looong ago!

I have a 1968 Plymouth Sport Fury with a 318, B5 Blue in color. It's an automatic 727 transmission and vinyl top. I have owned the car since 1994 and have had 100% fun with it. I slapped baby moon rims from the Pep Boys on it and cruised it hard for YEARS. It was my daily driver forever, and it also towed my sand rail 4 hours each way to the dunes a few times each season. What a reliable and wonderful car it has been!

I lowered it myself in the driveway, but will probably end up redoing all that to a more “quality” job. 20 year-olds don't exactly have the flow necessary to purchase drop spindles or air bags .

A few years ago, the 318 finally let loose on me (due to completely ignoring maintenance as a punk kid) and now I finally have the opportunity to get it back on the road – I could NOT be more excited!

Anyhow, here is a pic of the car.

I'm going to rebuild it with some mild upgrades. I'm going to deck the heads a tad and go 1.88/1.60 valves with a tad of port and polish, add a mild camshaft (maybe something like the 268), go .030 on the slugs and slap on a good 2.5" dual exhaust system with headers. It was already outfitted with a Performer intake manifold and a Holley 600 cfm carb, so I'll probably just keep those items for a nice little setup!

Nice car.

Why not look for a 360 to throw in instead? It would bolt right in, give you more power with what you want to do and they are pretty cheap. As far as the port and polish, either go all the way with it or not at all. Yes, some is better than none, but you won't get the full benefit out of it unless you go all the way with it. While you are at it, I would have the tranny gone through and throw in a shift kit, good quality rebuild kit and about a 2000 RPM stall converter so that you can really wake up that rebuilt motor.

78D200: Yea, I considered swapping mills, but I liked the idea of keeping the original motor and just warming it up. It isn't a hot rod, just a cruiser, so massive power doesn't really matter much .

rexus31: Thanks for the welcome, and I'll check out those sites! Gotta love MOPAR C bodies.

Thanks!

I'm endlessly pleased to announce that the Fury is BACK in my driveway, and the process has begun. It's a lot worse for the wear, but nothing that a little and elbow grease can't take care of.

Anyone know where I can get a rear bumper and passenger front window?

WOW nice man! Mine is in okay shape, but the rear bumper is bent bad and I really need a passenger front window. I wonder if the windows are the same on a Sport Fury (fast top) and a Fury III? Even close would help. Right now it doesn't have one at all. I'll shoot you out an email in the morning.

I know that the windshield for a '68 Fury Hardtop is 1" taller than a "fasttop" like yours. I drove a fasttop for 14 yrs. As far as the door windows, I don't have the answer.

I just bought a '68 Fury III 4 door hardtop. the oddball part that I need is the little chrome trim piece, on the taillight, that surrounds the back-up light. I would buy an entire taillight assembly, if necessary. Driver's side.

Thanks! I got the issue resolved. I found someone who had a rear bumper and a window from a fast top! What are the chances, eh? I cannot wait to cruise it around. I'll keep you all updated as the bomb progresses.
