oil preasure

I pulled my engine and replaced the rear main seal. While the engine was out, I also put on a new oil pan. The oil pickup was hitting the pan, so I cut off about 1/4 inch of the threaded part (to shorten it), and screwed it back in. The pickup no longer was hitting the pan, so I bolted the pan on. I also put on a new oil filter. That's all I did "oil related". My problem is this: I have about 25 lbs of preasure, and the longer the car runs, the preasure goes to Zero, and the engine starts ticking. What's wrong? (before I pulled the engine, the car ran fine).

sounds to me like the pick-up tube is sucking in air, its not sealed, when you cut the threads did you re-thread the end to make up that 1/4 inch?

I didn't know the threads were tapered, so instead of fixing a problem, I created another one... I'm hoping to get a new oil pick-up today and get the car back on the road~
