Shift, skipping D

Car was running fine, all of a sudden will not go into 3rd (drive). Still have 1, 2, N, R. P with no issues. Didn’t hear anything pop, or anything happen, and still shifts smooth into what I have. I have 727 torqueflite and thinking cable….but not sure. Any ideas? Newbie mopar owner. Thanks for help! Any videos out there on how to fix, sick of being in the shop and would like to try working in my own…just want to start looking at the right spot.thanks!

Is it shifting on its own or or you manually shifting it?

So? It will not shift into 3rd gear? OR it goes from 2nd into neutral when it shifts?

shift from 1st to 2nd, go to shift to 3rd -drive, and it shows D, but definitely isn’t. Shift again and goes into neutral no issue, shift neutral back to drive, shows D bit really in 2nd

It sounds like your shifter is out of adjustment and not going into drive, or that’s what I would be hoping for.

If all the other gears work as you have described. As far as I am awear, you have a problem with the Valve Body inside of the transmission.
