What's up guys, just joined since I'm looking at buying a '71 'Cuda
Just wanted to say hey to everyone. Close to purchasing a 1971 'Cuda from a guy and wanted to join the boards for some resto advice once I get the car and start working on it.
From Summerville, SC though by way of Warner Robins, GA. Miltary stationed at Charleston AFB if anyone is in the area

The guy told me it's orig. 318 but the motor blew a head gasket so he took it to the shop to get rebuilt, while in the shop, someone stole the 318 out of it. So the owner of the shop had a brand new 340 he gave the guy since the orig was stolen...well after 10 years the 340 messed up, while it was outside of his house, someone stole in carb and intake off the 340 (guy has bad luck)..and it'd been sitting in his yard for about 5-7 years now and he's gotten to the point to where he can't work on the car anymore..and is very hesitant to sell it (just gonna let it rust) since he's the orig owner of the car...so after stopping by every week on my beer delivery route, I guess he finally broke down and told me he'd sell it to me between $3-4K.... It's got some rust on both rear quarter panels, trunk and driver side floor. Haven't been able to view under the car.
not sure about the trans, didn't even think to ask him...I've been wondering if I should go back to the 318 to make it orig or keep the 340 and maybe 6 pack it...Thinking maybe the 340 6 Pack..later on I can go 318 and orig paint for resale value, but i doubt I'll ever sell it since a 'Cuda is my dream car. Orig color is gold with flat back side stripes and shaker hood (caught me off guard when he said it was orig 318. Thought Shaker hoods were with 340 6 Pack and up. guess you could custom order it)
Welcome to the forum.... Keep us posted on your progress... If keeping the 340 is what you want to do then do it. If not then go back to the 318. Its your car and do as you please......
Welcome and what ever you decide to do it will be a great find for 3 to 4 k in my book as for the rust seems to be the norm for them cars and they sell everything to fix it up
but only down size is anything with MoPaR written on it will cost you a bit more versus chevy / ford kepp us posted with pic's as we all no we love pic's

Welcome!
318 cars are not really that valuable. Stick with the 340 as you will have more fun with it, and IF you ever decide to sell it, you'll get more money for it with the 340 that you would with the 318.
While 6 packs are very cool, they can be very hard to tune. If anything, maybe run a dual quad setup instead.

Hello, welcome aboard. The 71 cuda had a shaker hood as a option (N96 Code) for 340 383 440-6 only The hemi it was standard. The 318 was only available in the barracuda and came with a flat hood. Used to live in Summerville SC now up the road in Pawleys Island SC . Everyone knows me in that town as Cuda John
Welcome
The question on do you go back to the 318, yes if as long its the same year as the car everything must be done to the year, to make any type of good money and if your going to do anything from original then put the 340 6 pack in it and have fun why stop there I have 1970 blowing 440 8 pack in my 74 Cuda at close to 800 hp which was a 360 to begin its life and was crashed when it had 4625 miles now we have around 8800 miles on it and drive it on nice days
