Mirada in Norway
Mirada in Norway
Hi guys.
I bought a 1980 Dodge Mirada from a friend of mine, in order to save it from the junkyard.
I spend the better part of two months, welding in new steel and fixing a LOT of rust, and electrical issues!
It's almost ready for summer, but the door pins are lousy, and I need new ones, but I don't know where to buy them, and I need a parts number!
Does anyone in here know?

Some pictures from when I picked her up, in september last year!

A few hours in a bumpy ride, on bad roads! hehehe

No power, so a boost from his tahoe was needed

But the alternator in a new car like that dont work very well, so the K5 stepped in with dual batteries, and dieselpower!
Good to hear the V8 rumble! hehehe
The owners last drive

Perfect fit!

Had to pull over, for food and fuel

Back home

Skinny wires??

Dont like the look of this!

More pics to come, if you want it!

Nice car with the floor shifter that was rare. Missing the console though.
For door pins on chrysler cars you remove the hinge and weld up the current holes nice and thick then grind them down. Drill new holes in the same place and put in a new generic pin cut to fit. These are not Garbage Motor vehicles with brass bushings that go bad if you look at them funny.

Vin-number is XH22LAR17xxxx
So it's probably a standard, with the optional 360!
Maybe not a CMX, but d..n it's cool

Getting older, so a pillow helps keeping the metaltaste out of my butt

found more rust in the wheel well!

This is grounded wiring!! WTF

How stupid was that? First speedbump, and the exhaust drops to the ground!

Guess what, more rust!

The previous owner, has no mechanical skills, so he send the car to a workshop, that claims to be experts in american vehicles! I'm glad, that I'm not the one who paid for this work, cause something is missing!!

Slow starting power, so the starter came out, for identification!

Just a note but usually when a front passenger floor pan is rotten it's because of a leak from the windshield or firewall. You might want to take a look for hidden holes near the cowl.
Starters are usually just clean the hell out of them and put back together. The steel case is black the aluminum is unpainted as is the white porcelan. The small tin plate that covers the gears is usually unpainted but can be painted black as well.
Check the drive coupler it should lock itself without slipping. Some can be rebuilt while others are sealed units.

I also bought a new startermotor, since a full overhaulkit proved impossible to find!
These pic are from last year, in november!

But some voodworks, gave me all the comfort I needed!

Working under cover! hahaha

This rust hole was right beside the gastank, so a little smart thinking were required! hehehe (Starter heat shield)

Guess what!! More rust!
The rust in the framerail, almost killed the project, It were in the beginning of winter, and I were quite surprised over the amount of rust, that I had uncovered.
I really didn't think it were that bad, and I had allready taken care of everything else!
But I overcame the dispair, rolled up my sleeves and got to work!! (actually I just bought a pair of winter work gloves! hehehe)

This was not pretty!

When I bought the car, somone had tried to steal it, with no luck. but they managed to destroy the side window!
So after 2 months of scouring the internet in search of a replacement, I desided to make my own
4mm of lexan found its way to my shelves, and waited for some of my sparetime.
The original from the driverside, got taken out, and were used as a template

placed on the lexan, and I drew around it!

my minicutter on low speed, and a lot of time! hehehe

took almost an hour to cut

Spend a few more hours grinding it down to size!

Lubed up with WD40

And PRESTO, a new window

Let's try another angle!

The original, and the copy

lets get rid of the ducttape
