Automatic overdrive transmission for 57 Dodge 325 hemi
Will any of the newer (since the 1980's) mopar 4 speed automatic transmissions fit on a 1957 Dodge 325 hemi?

I'm working on a 52 Town and Country that originally had a 265 6 cylinder and M 6 semi automatic transmission. In the late 60's I helped my father swap out the original motor for a 354 hemi V8 with the same transmission. My father also has a '57 Dodge 325 with an automatic transmission on it. I am looking into installing the 325 with a fully automatic transmission and thought I'd investigate the possibility of using a modern tranny to help with fuel economy.
By the way, my original goal was to complete the project my father and I had started after the car had been sitting unfinished in storage for over 50 years so he could have at least one ride in it. (He is now 92) I was able to get the car running, exhaust system installed and replacement front clip installed and take him for a couple of rides in it.

Might Check with Phil at Blairs Speed Shop on Pasadena CAl. Also. He might have something left over to make that fit ?

1 thing you can do affordably to increase fuel mileage is swapping the carb. I might get some raised eyebrows for this, but if its a 4 barrel you can get a adapter and put a GM quadrajet on it. They are very good in 1 aspect, fuel economy. They offer low fuel consumption at part throttle and wake up when the secondaries open. My 70 Buick Electra with the 455 and stock 850 cfm quadrajet gets about 15 mpg on the highway! It goes way below that if I have a heavy right foot though. I think a easy to find pre electronic (1978ish) 750 cfm q-jet will work great for the Dodge. Adapter kits for them are cheap to.

Ive never had a thermoquad, but they are both spreadbore so I want to say yes.
Update: I read up on it. They are similar, but neither exactly interchange. You can buy a adapter and modify then to interchange on the intake.
