Can I swap a cast iron for an ally Torqueflite?
I'm new on here and from the UK, but I have recently discovered that I need a new 1960s 383 cu in engine. I currently have a 361 which is wrong for the car, and it's bolted to a cast iron Torqueflite A-488, which in this case has no park facility. I think I know where to get a newly built 383 and I'm thinking that I could replace the old A-488 with a 727 with the park facility at the same time. I know some early 727s don't have the park facility, so I have to be careful which one to get, but are the A-488 and A-727 mounting points the same? What other pitfalls are there? Do any A-488s have the park facility?

OK, thanks for that RacerHog, I think you've successfully dissuaded me from attempting any swap so can I come at it from another angle? Are there any A-488s that have a park facility. I have an A-488 fitted but it has no park and the car has a useless handbrake. The solution is some kind of 'park facility on the Torqueflite but my A-488 has no park facility. However, reading lots of forums, I am told that some production cars in the US did have A-488s with park, but which ones? Anyone help?

Bob, I'm a little sorry... I did answer the question a little generic, lol
I really dont know what your working on at the moment.
However I am pretty sure a later 727 will fit the bill. But i'm not 100% sure.
