Possible?? 87 318 in a newer model dodge?

I have an 87 dodge ram d150, the body is in pretty bad shape, but it has a good engine/tranny. I want to purchase a newer body to put this engine in so, up to what years will work with the least amount of problems?

I have found a 1994 with a 360? for about a grand, will my engine bolt directly into it?

Thanks any suggestions will be helpful!

Welcome

The engine will physically bolt right up. BUT, basicly everything around the engine will have to be changed. Fuel system, electrical system, emissions.... Torque converter will have to be changed. What is wrong with the 360 in the newer truck?

That 87 setup will work in a 93 and older dodge truck. The 94-01 1500s have a MPFI system, different heads, intake, exhaust, among other things. It can be swapped in though, but you may want to take a look into your state's emission laws and see if swapping in a motor from an older vehicle into a newer one is allowed and if you need to meet that years emissions standards.

I don't want to discourage you, just having you cover all the bases before going to doing something that is not legal.

You can swap the intake and TBI in from the 93 onto the 318 and not have any issues. It should all just bolt right in.

Would this apply to an 85 Dodge truck as well? It's a good motor but really needs a new carb.

Yes but you will need to swap over the wiring, computer, O2 sensor(s), etc. I would think that installing a new carb (and intake maybe) would be easier.

that's what I thought-like most car guys you always hope for the magic wand solution but in reality there's never truly a simple one-just some fixes are easier than others.
thanks
