Have 72K miles. Heard this three times. First was in February. From cold startup (morning). Lasted about 3 miles and went away.

Again about a month ago. Started driving to dealer and it stopped in about 1/2 mile.

Third time was Wednesday. Engine was warm this time. Lasted about 5 miles. When it goes away, it goes completely away.

Its loud and follows RPMs.

Car is well maintained and basically stock.

Lifter?

Dear says if no light comes on and its not happening when I bring it in, they wont be able to fix it...

Yes, I would assume that it's a lifter. Taking it's time to pump up...

Just did it again. reved it (in nuetral) and it went away..Should be enough for dealer to troubleshoot. (still have 20K miles on warranty!)

I would make arrangements with the dealer to leave your car overnight. And most important ! To be there when the mechanic starts the car

Yes, make sure you're there. I brought my truck into the dealer 3 times about an annoying squeaking noise and they kept sending it back. Finally I rode along with the tech and said "There! That! Do you hear that?!". He goes, "Oh That? Yeah I didn't know that that's what you were talking about, I heard that last time". Hand holding helps sometimes.
