Son Wants to Buy Demon.
!972 Demon said to be a 340 4speed car. Does Not have the correct VIN tag riveted in the dash, interior has been stripped with bolted in 6 point, 8 3/4 spool 4.3 or 4.5 gear with Strange axles, SS springs, and Comp Eng drag shocks on all corners. Glass fenders (steel ones gone) with the rest of the car still there in the passenger compartment and trunk. The steel body is solid, I mean I've never seen a 40 yr old car that looks terrible at first glance so solid.
The boy does not need this now and can't afford it and says he's going to borrow the 3500$. It's not his favourite or dream car, he just wants to go Drag Racing, he's 21.
As a dad I'm torn, as a Chrysler man I've already got it at my place fitting him in the seat and deciding what engine to build.
Please give your honest ideas and advice to a perplexed Dad.
Thanks, Dan.

Does it not match the VIN in other locations, is this what the owner has said or did you run it (I'm thinking you ran it)?
The VIN being wrong would freak me out. The car could be stolen, the Old VIN could be bad, etc.. I would run that VIN and try and find the original VIN and run that too and see what comes up.

Didn't run it, the guy was completely up front about it all, no hidden agenda at all. The boy is not too concerned and if it stays a track car it's not a problem but it does close down future options with resale if that day came.

The bad part about it is having to borrow the money that he does not have to buy it. If you said he worked up and saved for it I would say you can't or shouldn't try to stop him. Kids these days have no common sense when it comes to credit or taking out a loan.

I know it man. I cosigned on his brothers '88 mustang that he paid off with no problems or telephone calls from the bank. We have all been told to learn from our own mistakes. The one good thing Chrysler son is doing now is an apprenticeship at a Ford dealership so he is coming up with cheap used cars to drive.

Thanks D. It is actually a '71. Looks like he's got the money lined up (not mine) another dash with tag, has another guy lined up with a tag and ownership, I've not seen him this excited in a long time. He has the fever.
He was over here yesterday picking out his block, camshaft, rockers, distributor, manifold, carb and transmission. Made me feel pretty good that I had all this stuff he could easily put all together, I didn't really know it would be that easy. Maybe Mother will let me get all the new stuff I want. Shhhhhhhhh.

You say your son is 21, an adult, It is time for him to make his decisions and learn from his mistakes, we can inform are children with the pro's and con's and help them up when they fall.

That's just what Mom and I are trying to do 62. He has been making some very good decisions the last year and taking care of Mom's vehicle 100% at the dealership and turning into a man his Grandfather would be proud of. I think he has turned the corner, if you know what I mean.

Well guys, my son bought the '71 Demon. I told him to join this forum. He doesn't know what to have as a name. Last night at a Birthday party he joked that he'll call himself FasterthanCoronet 500, Fasterthandad, and others like that. What do you guys think. He's so excited, it's great to see.
