The 318 will respond to the usual "tried and true" tricks of the trade e.i. cam/intake/carb swaps......there are a million plus two recipes for getting more power from a 318. If I were on a strict budget, those items are where I would start first.

You might also find printed info a big help as well.........

Welcome.

Since you are in Australia do some research on Engine Quest and RHS cylinder head castings. I believe they are made in Australia and New Zealand. They are made for both the LA and Magnum 318 motors and will give you the biggest bang for the buck.

You can get these bare for short money and set them up with GM (Holden) parts which will keep your hardware costs down. Most engine shops sell these complete as replacement heads and use Chevy hardware due to cost.

If you have to tear into the rotating assembly pay attention to piston height to dial in compression.

With decent intake, headers and the EQ heads you will have an outstanding driver with modern performance numbers.

The book above is excellent and search this forum as many have done outstanding work with their 318s.

Good Luck!

I would start with dual exhaust, 4bbl intake and 600-650 cfm carb. Make sure to get the correct Mopar throttle lever adapter for the carb for the trans linkage.
Also check the rear gear ratio if it has a 3.23 your ok.
I could have a 2.91 so a change would help
