340 parts problem

Hey there everybody in MOPAR land!!! I'm new to this, but here it goes...I have a '70 340 block that I need some main caps for. The guy I got the block from was supposed to send the caps, but screwed me out of them. So I have a big paperweight unless I can find all 5 main caps.... Any body help? Thanks!!!!

All I can find is Pro-Gram caps for almost $800.00, plus cost of line boring!!!!! Surely there is a lower priced alternative????

Have you checked any of the Mopar Proformance dealers for a set of Alum. Main Caps? You will have to have a line bore done no mater what. I have a 340 with a cracked cyl wall but I am not sure I want to part with the caps. Plus I dont know what a fair price would be.

I've never had any experience with aluminum main caps. Kind of weary of them, ya know? I've spoken with my local engine shop, and they said that caps from another engine may or may not work. Kind of a trial and error type of thing. If you are willing to part with yours, and they will work on mine, I'll pay a fair price for them. Caps from a 318 should also work, as the bearing journals are the same. Just let me know. Thanks!!!!

if 318 caps work and you can't find anything better, it might not hurt to check the local boneyards

I found a partial set of 318's but I have to many buckets of rods and stuff. I will look after I get back from my car cert. Thursday. Sorry I thought I could walk right up and pick out the 340 stuff but I guess I should have marked the buckets. 18 years ago. I will also call a local mopar guy who deals old mopar parts if I cant find mine. I would beet you need these like a week ago?

I know all too well about the "buckets of parts". I'm not in too big of a hurry, actually. I really appreciate all the trouble you are going through. Red Devil - all the yards around here only sell complete engines, all or nothing. Plus, 99% of everything down here is brand X. Good thought though! Oh, Outlaw, your 'Cuda has got it nailed!!
