Born and raised Mopar!!

I have an 86 dodge daytona, its my first Mopar and Im looking for some help. I learned how to drive in this car and Im trying to keep it alive. Currently it has about 190,xxx miles and a nasty valve tap. It sat for about 8 years before i started driving it, which i know isn't good for any car, but I've been driving it for about a year now and its only let me sit once. I replaced the fuel pump and she's been running like a champ ever since. I just wish it had some more power, any ideas on what i can do boost the horsepower a bit that isn't going to cost me an arm and a leg?

I remember those cars well. They moved pretty good for the day. Do you have the 2.2L I4 or the 2.2L Turbo?

Check its health and make sure you are getting what you should have.
You need a check vacuum, compression and log Air Fuel. The first two are easy checks and will help you and the car get acquainted. And you should have these baseline numbers BEFORE you mod anything.

Logging Air Fuel is a must in any forced induction car and double "must" if fuel injected. This will cost you a few bucks but you can take the gauge with you if you switch cars in future. You do not want to "lean" out a turbo car. Making mods to it without tuning fuel and air could be very costly.

Once you are there, all the normal mods apply. And replacement parts are still available and affordable for that motor. More air in, more air out etc.. apply. The oval barrell style muffler is not designed well. So cat back system in a one step up OD for pipe will help. A non restrictive air filter is next. Then retune to make sure you are feeding it appropriately.

Your cat is old school design and today's are WAY better. When yours goes, if you need to put one on there, get a newer style high flow cat.

Its the 2.2l EFI with throttle body injection. Since it sat for as long as it did I've had to replace a bunch of stuff already. The list is as follows gas tank, transmission, fuel pump (which stopped working about a week after i put it in, so i put the original back in), sending unit, and cat back exhaust. I do know that there is still an issue with the fuel system, once it gets to about a 1/4 tank it starts running like crap. From what i can tell its not getting enough fuel and starts to sputter and eventually stalls out. It does have the turbo fuel pump but Im not sure if that has anything to do with it or not.

2.2L vs 2.2L Turbo are two different pumps in my book. Now some companies double number parts and mess with pricing and are sneaky about giving the public cross reference data but I doubt this is the case. Replace with correct pump. Its a 35 dollar part.
