Brand new to restoration, PLEASE help (73 Charger)

Hey everyone,

Brand new to restoration here, and decided to jump right into it. I dont really know cars well beyond the basics, but i figure best way to learn is hands on. I recently purchased a 73 charger, good body except for a couple small quarter spots of rust missig i plan to bondo on the left fender. I have the following questions:

I bought the car missing the following components that I know about (I'm sure there are a few more that i will figure out when i tear into the service manual) Driveshaft, linkage, automatic shifter, radiator, wiring harness.

Here is the problem i have, after looking up the engine block code, i found out it is a TRUCK 440 and tranny (thought it was a car 440 when i purchased). How do i go about finding out what equipment is compatible? Thanks a lot

Tim

Welcome!

When you say that you have a truck 440 and tranny, is it out of a 1/2, 3/4, or 1 ton truck or is it out of a camper? If it is out of a camper then you are in luck as the camper's tranny is built up more-so from the factory due to the weight of the vehicles.

If it is from a regular truck, then X3 on what 1966sportfury said.

Welcome to the hobby!

I would seriously consider fixing your rust issues correctly or else you will be chasing them for as long as you own the car. I would recommend either cutting out the cancer and replacing with a patch panel or sourcing a new fender. You will be thankful in the long run if you fix the problem instead of putting a band aid on it.

Yeah, I work on a ship so I know all about taking care of rust. Luckily I took some 120 grit sandpaper to it and most of it is light surface rust. Ive got about 85 percent of the previous rust spots down to bare metal now, just have a few more of the trickier/hidden spots to take care of.
