Hello everyone, I'm Jansen and I am a proud part owner, along with my father, of an original 1966 Plymouth Barracuda Formula S. This car has literally sat in a garage for 15 years waiting to be restored. Straight body, ready for prime and paint, no rust that we can see with about 80% of the parts sitting inside of the interior (which will need a full resoration).

The bad news: my dad has been foreclosed on and failed to make accommodations for the car; considering he's lived in the home for 30 years, some other pressing issues took precedent such as his declining health and finding a new place to live along with funds management. It will need to move from a garage to under a car cover exposed to the elements. Or whatever I can afford to keep it under. I don't have a garage nor do I have the resources (money) to build or buy one, what have you guys done in a pinch to set your car in one place for a little time while you consider your options?

Thank you for any insight in advance and I'm really hoping to get a restoration going next summer (2018) since I'm getting married this year and honeymoon; my money is dedicated elsewhere for the time being but the future wife is on board and even wants to help build the car! Sure beats the 80's Merkur we planned on!

Your going to have to cote the bare metal with a primer good enough to keep it from rusting wile you have it covered. A lacquer based primer would be good for a year under a tarp then it could be sanded off easily to prep the car for paint plus its inexpensive.

 

I have a 10x17 portable garage from Harbor Freight, cost me $170, first one held up for 2 years before the wind destroyed it. Not sure if it would work as well for you where you are at, a lot more humidity than we have here.
