I have a big block with a 727 transmission
car was working fine when parked. I would start it and drive down the lane a bit. as time went on the transmission needed to warm up in order to move car. One day the car wanted to move but I felt a little pop and nothing. I don’t want to remove the transmission. I’m thinking this issue can be resolved by removing the valve body and replacing seals. I believe storing the car has hardened them. open to advice thanks |
What condition is the transmission fluid in? Such as color (red? black?), smell, any metal particles? What is the level of the fluid in neutral while hot?
Is the Throttle Valve linkage (often mistaken for a simple kick down) hooked up and moving with the carburetor throttle? It won't try to move in any of the gear selections? If so, I had a friend with an issue like that. It ended up being the torque converter coming apart inside. Otherwise, a band and clutch application chart could prove useful. |

This car has been in storage for many years.(44)
fluid is good and clean. over the years it took longer and longer to get the car to move. at first I had reverse instantly but needed the car to run in neutral for a while for a forward gear. . Eventually after time it would want to move but couldn’t. Now nothing no reverse or forward. valve body I can do. If I have to remove the transmission then I might just get it rebuilt. I don’t want to $ wise. I am hopeful o-rings or something in the valve body. |
Well, not being a transmission man all I can offer is guesses.
However, the fact it doesn't do anything now makes me think of issues like Low fluid, clogged filter or a bad pump. There are test ports for checking pressures on the TorqueFlite but, I've never done that. Maybe worth checking before dropping the pan for inspection and losing your fluid. Maybe someone else here can offer more advice. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/moparfo...0f8856a06a.png https://www.sonnax.com/tech_resource...pressure-ports |
Sounds to me you are on the rite track... Pull the trans and replace all the seals Gaskets and bushings, fluid and filter and flush the trans lines....
My guess is the Pump rings are gone. |
