Input Please

Hi there
I recently purchased a 69 Dodge Dart Custom. The car is in fairly good shape, with some restoration already done. It has just over 37,000 miles registered on the odometer. The engine is a 273 cu.in. that has had some work done(purple cam) and such. The car has a 340 hood on it, not the original hood.
My question is ........ should I keep the original 273 engine and change the hood? because I know that the Dart Custom did not have a 340 engine as an option, or should I change the engine to a 340 and keep the hood?( I already have a 340 engine to put in).

Any feed back would be welcome

Thank you

Simple - install the 340. There is no reason for the hood to be a liar.

Is the 340 from that car?

it all depends on what you want- do you want to go the original route or the more custom route?

welcome , so what input you looking for then, I would just think about what you want that if you want a 340 car or a 273 custom car I dont think 97 % of the people care anymore if its all stock or not and down the road you could build the 273 back to stock and find a hood for later on and swap it down the road to stock , but i would have a little bit of fun with the 340 first before the gas prices go where no man/lady can afford it unless your one that can get another set up and put the dart back stock and save the 340 for a runner or something ijs .... Either way im sure the readers would like to see some pic's if ya' have any

X2

Save the 273, install the 340 and make it 'more' fun! 340s can really run!

It sounds like you have a "survivor". You should do whatever you prefer, but if you go with a 340 you should hang on to the original engine so it can be made totally original again in the future.

Will the 340 bolt up to the 273's transmission, and if so, can it handle it?

Pop in the 340, dress it up like a 273 commando, hang on to the stock motor

hell with it put the biggest one in there you can get you want some power when you give it gas. plus it will be alot more fun. if you limit your self to all stock .. that thing will be sitting in the garage becuase your going to worry about it breaking.

on the other hand if it running fine just drive it for a while and think about it. Later if you have the time and know how upgrade.
