Wink Merry meet from Alberta Canada!

Hey all, joined the forums here, mainly to find some answers to a little issue with my nieghbours 74 challanger..

yes yes, its the dashlights... lol...

i went blind starring at wiring diagrams, and just when I finaly decided it was a switch, we went out and grabbed a set of switches off his parts car. and what do ya know, they still wont work!

I spent alot of time with a multi meter and test light, and jumping things here n there, checking voltage drops and continuity etc etc..

everything seems fine, however it just wont work.

so what Im looking for is how to test the switches themselves, IE, which prong should connect to wich prong etc.

these old wiring diagrams arent quite letting me in on something. Im running in circles totaly missing something, I just cant nail it down..

anyways, guess i shoulda posted all that in a tech or questions type of place.. lol

as it is, I had on old 83 cordoba.. i miss that car. now I have 91 dakota.

Id love to get ahold of an old muscle car one of these days, so who knows..

Edit: i always forget, i have an 82 AMC Eagle wagon.. pretty much all restored, lotsa work time n mula in2 it, but its been parked about 3 years now cuz i took the tranny outta her!

I haven't had to troubleshoot this particular circuit. If I was starting with no knowledge of the problem, I'd first check to make sure that the fuses in locations 4 and 5 were good. If so, then I'd check to be sure that everything on the power source side of the headlight switch was getting power when the headlight switch is off. If so, then I'd turn the headlight switch on and check the other side of it to make sure that the switch is working. If so, then I'd check the black/yellow wire on the dimmer switch to make sure this is getting power with the headlight switch on, and then I'd check the tan wire side of the dimmer to make sure this is getting power. In my case, the dimmer switch is sometimes flaky, and I need to jiggle and cycle it to get the dash lights to work. Of course, this all assumes that you've checked the dash bulbs themselves and know that they're not all burned out... Other things to think about would be, did the lights work before? When did they stop working? Did anything change between when they worked and when they stopped working? Good luck!

Welcome!

I'm no electrical guy but have you tried another dash and/or make sure that you are properly grounded?
