Hello neighbor, and Welcome to the forum, I'm in the Kootenays of B.C.

600-800hp is not hard to do....making it LIVE for very long at that output level IS DIFFICULT....and EXPENSIVE...because generally all LA Engines are 2 Bolt Main Blocks, except the aftermarket Race Blocks which have 4 Bolt Mains.
A Forged Steel Crankshaft would also be advisable....and if using a Blower on a regular basis....cutting a 1/4" keyway in the crank Snout 180* opposite to the stock keyway....helps keep the Blower Drive Hub from spinning off the snout.
INDY 360-2 Oval Port Heads(W2 style) maintain good turbulence with a Blower....360-1 Rectangular are fine also(flow more).

Before this gets too long winded....what's the "Budget" here ??

Welcome. I spoke to my son to answer this because he has a bunch of friends that mud and crawl. One had a 383 500hp stroked Chev that would beat just about anything through the pit, but that was about it. He had trouble just getting it on the trailer and no way would it crawl. He put in a 327 fuel injected GM Performance engine and had way more fun. Having these things idle well and good low end throttle responce is key.

We both think that a 440 maybe stroked would be the way to go, a wet supercharger belt could give you touble too.

Welcome to the forum, on the heads the smaller the runners the better with a blower, and depends on what size blower you run about the crank if it is a 671 or larger you will have to bouble key the crank,
if it is a 142,144, or 177 a single key will be fine.
