Hello all,

I am new to this forum but not to wrenching. In fact I helped write part of Chrysler's MoTech mechanics' school back in the day. I left Chrysler 7 years ago and when I took my 84 van in for work on the driver door lock,
it came back with a 600.00 charge.

I raised he(( and it got reduced to 300.00. These are the same people who tried to charge me 214.00 for new AC compressor gaskets a week after I got the thing converted to R 134m after all gaskets had been replaced!!

Now the same door lock problem happened again but I had time on this weekend. I took the door apart in about ten minutes and found that the plastic portions of the lock mechanism were crumbling

I'm taking the van to the dealer on Tuesday. I will secure the door shut using a come-along becaue it opens free now with no lock.

Of course it opened by itself at 70 miles per hour too while driving. And the new improved door hinge is loose as he(( too.

Comments please? Where can I get a good door lock mechanism, ie that's all metal? Any parts guys know what year these got changed?
