New to the Forum and...
...tons of questions incoming after I do a good search.
First and foremost, I am clueless about Mopar. My brother in law and I picked up a 1955 Plymouth Belvedere almost 20 years ago. She is a red and white four door with a flat 6. She was loved with the whole garage just for her and a hoarders dream but I digressed. Anyhow, after being moved outside for the past few years the paint is oxidized and she is parked out front. My bro pretty much will give it to me so this gem or possible curse could be mine.
I have driven her two of my friend's wedding plus my own and would loved to make her my cool daily driver with reliability in mind and hopefully, better brakes so a little import car won't be stuck in the grill when they cut me off.
I am seesawing the idea of bringing her back to life or should I just let her go to someone whom will treat her well....things that make you go hummmmm.
Anyhow, I hoped to learn more from everyone on this forum.
T
here she is showing her age of which I hope to change.

Welcome to the forum!!! The ultimate decision is yours on what to do with the car... You say its been in your family for many years.... IMHO, it would be a shame to let her go to someone else.. Give her a complete detailing and update the brakes and make her a daily driver.... Bet you would get more attention in her than one of those imports!!! But, again, the decision is yours alone to make... Oh, be sure to check out the Mopar of the Month.....

It's easy to know if parts are easy or not. Check eBay and Google to see how many pictures are out there.
I would like to drop a mustang II front end on it.

I feel this is way over my pay grade or too much to chew. The paint job alone will be very expensive to do it right. It is pretty much going to be gutted completely because that's the only way to do it right.
I might add, she still have all her molding and trims plus she is still 6volts. So a whole rewire is needed. Headliner is dry rotted and the carpet looks to have years of bum dust collection.
I am ok with a wrench but have NEVER dabbled in restorations before so I really feel this is waaaaay over my head.
The easiest path for me is to get a donner to swap all the major component over hoping that it will be a complete swap. Sadly, my search hasn't gotten me far on anyone doing it on this 55 unliked other classics.

Thanks for the offer but it's not fair to trade when you have seen a picture
Of my lady but I haven't seen yours?
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. A bit busy on my end currently ... Having an infant and a toddler will sap my time quick but I am sure you're awared of it already. On the plus side is how cool, is it,to pass Mr.Belvedere down to them in the future???

Looks sharp for her age I would keep it and try and do as much on it as you can by yourself and help keep the cost down and tell your buddies to get there butts over and help if they want a ride in it / awsome looking car send us pic's of her if and when you decide to to treat her to a make over

The only rotted out spot that I could find or know of is the bottom
Of the trunk on the driver side. I can do almost everything except the welding, chrome, body work if any, and paint.
I wished there were someone that did a restore that I could followed or know what is REALLY involved before I leaped. Unknown is cool but it makes me gun shy.

Since I am thinking of making it reliable? I will pretty much save ONLY the body and everything is will be swapped out.

I think you have a fantastic idea, not only will you be more reliable but with the right donor parts you can have a car that any corner parts store can supply.
Do you have any in mind?
Personally I have always felt same manufacturers engine in the body but trans, axle or front suspension can be anything.

Saw a jeep inline 6 plus tranny for $600. The more I think about how much I will pour into her? I feel we need to get married first. Yikes!!!!
