Hi Forum members.
I am a newbie to this forum although I am a member of another Mopar related forum also. My project is a 1953 Plymouth Cranbrook Convertible Club Coupe. It was brought out to Australia ( I live in South Australia ) sometime around the early 2000s I think. As far as I can tell, it is the only example of this year and model/body type in Australia. She ( my wife insists it is a "she " ) was in generally good condition when I bought her with very little rust or other defects. There was an adventure associated with her purchase too, but I'll come to that in another post perhaps. Anyway, I have had the upholstery upgraded and paint and bright-work restored. There was a problem with the electrical system in that the previous owner had installed a 12 volt battery and alternator and just trusted to the ruggedness of the electricals to keep on going. Over time though, things began to burn our. I had to have the roof motor (which operated a rare electric-mechanical top folding mechanism) rewound. Thank goodness there are still veterans who can still do this work. I have had all of the car's wiring replaced and installed resistance buffering for all of the electrical components. My final hurdle is to replace the convertible weather stripping. I imported a kit that was supposed to fit this specific car but it was not a good investment because much of the rubber was incorrect in profile and length. We are planning to have some weather stripping custom made but need to see pictures of the shape and profiles of the stripping, particularly the top bow- windscreen seal and the seal between the roof and rear quarter window. If anyone has any suggestions here or even better, pictures, I will be over the moon. i am going to post the weatherstrip issue on the Plymouth specific forum, but if anyone reads this and has any ideas that would be great. In the motor trimmer's workshop. At our local beach. You can see the seal section I mentioned. I'm looking for the correct weatherstrip to seal the top bow to the windshield. Notice the magpie lurking in the background. 5 minutes after this image was taken, he left a "welcome present" on my nice white roof!!!!
By the way, if you look up "Plymouth Cranbrook" on Wikipedia, scroll down half way and you will see my actual car. Not me in the picture though as this was with the previous owner.
