LOL John.
The slant 6 has tons of potential to make some really good numbers. But (and don't yell at me John) there is no sub for cubic inches. You should be able to pick up a 318 or 360 with a 727 tranny for pretty cheap and drop that inplace of the slant 6. If you do that, then you will/should upgrade teh rear axle to something stronger (at least an 8 1/4 if its not in there already). Either way, you probably looking at spending the same amount of $$$ and time.
I'd build up the slant 6 though. You don't really see that many of them in cars anymore.

GO HEMI MODE!!
And no I dont mean the 426....
In australia , there are what was known as the 225 hemi... (I believe thats what it was called) Im sure they are rare here in the states, but how sick would that be? a an /6 hemi hot cam, nice headers, and they seem to have alot of nice 2-6 carb setups for the intake...... sounded like a unique idea to me, I know its a little far fetched, but if you want unique while keeping a /6 and making it move.... what could be sweeter? Look into them, I know they came in some of the australian "dusters" and "Chargers" which look nothing like what we know as dusters and chargers. Just an Idea, and a Good one at that I think... Good luck.
PS , there are alot of performance mods for a /6 traditional US engine as well. Iv3e heard of setups pushing 500 HP out of a slant 6, Ive never seen it, but Ive seen videos of /6 drag cars running like 9-10 sec 1/4's
I know its possible to get headers, intakes, carbs, and even turbo setups for the slant 6 , do some serious looking out there on the net, you'll see what I mean. I considered doing a similar build on my 1971 duster /6 but after seeing how terrible the car was (totally rusted out) it went on down the road to the graveyard.... it was so sad.

I believe their "hemi" slant 6 is the same as our "super 225". 2 barrel carb and intake and a special exhaust manifold. The parts show up on E-bay from time to time and usually fetch a good amount of money.
