1999 Chrysler Cirrus LXi Problems
Hello I have a 1999 Chrysler Cirrus LXi with the 2.5L 6 Cylinder Engine
I paid $2500 from a friend of mine 3 years ago with it only having 109K miles and it now has 159K miles. I average 1500 miles a month and I have clocked 34MPG at times which exceeds the factory rated 27MPG. I LOVE this car!
However it has had a few problems since I have owned it and currently the car will crank but not start. (this started right after I had washed the car but NOT the engine compartment last week) It does have compression noise (popping/coughing) but just no fire. I have tried to follow the vehicle manuals instructions for cold/hard to start issues which involve cranking the engine with the gas pedal pushed all the way down with no luck. I have already replaced the battery (old and overdue for replacement anyways), spark plugs, fuel pump, and filter. I had discovered today that the fuel pump and filter that were replaced were the original factory parts. I currently have a half a tank of gas and I used Techron fuel treatment in the tank. I have checked all the fuses and relays and all looks good. All of this work was performed myself. The spark plugs being replaced were the $1.99 Autolite brand. I swapped them out with the Bosch +4 Platinum Fusion brand. I even popped the wires and distributor cap off tonight and the connections all looked fine with no signs of corrosion or dampness. There is no CEL or trouble codes present.
Past services:
Water pump, timing belt, PCV valve, EGR valve, all serpentine belts, valve cover gaskets, plug wires, spark plugs, coolant flush, heater core flush, front end tie rods, sway bar links, front end control arms and ball joints, new brakes and rotors & a cold air intake system.
The vehicle as also recently repainted.
Can anyone shine some light on what else to do? As I mentioned I love this car but all of my friends are telling me to trash it and it would be heartbreaking for me to actually do it as I see her being capable of reaching 300K miles. Is she really worth saving?
