Round One of Five Qualifying Passes

Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Session #1
By Dan Bennett

CLERMONT, Ind. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 56th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals presented by Lucas Oil listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Right Lane: Bob Glidden Runs 6.782/204.94, Now #1

5:50 p.m.

Lots of things are special about Indy, just one of them being that we have 5 Pro Stock sessions instead of 4. But this one is in a class all by itself just due to the car that's just pulled into the water. Bob Glidden is in Indy, he's racing, and he's in a Ford. I'll wait a moment until the cheering stops.

This is Bob's 324th race and his 26th U.S. Nationals. He hasn't been in NHRA competition since the Pomona Finals in 2003.

OK, so it wasn't a thing of beauty but I'm not sure anybody but BG could have pulled it off anyhow. The car jumped off to the right and was moving hard to the wall. Bob yanked it back right in the middle of some nasty shake. He managed to get the car settled down and runs his career best ET.

Like I say every year, wish you were here.

Left Lane: Kevin Lawrence Runs 6.812/196.73, Now #2
Right Lane: Mark Martino Runs 16.362/100.07, Now #3

Martino does almost exactly the same as Glidden but doesn't have 40 years of experience and has to lift. Lawrence lays down a nice baseline.

Weather conditions: air temperature 78 degrees, relative humidity 34 percent, barometer 28.94 inches, adjusted altitude 2,870 feet, track temperature 107 degrees.

Left Lane: Vincent Nobile Runs 7.013/205.57, Now #3
Right Lane: Steve Schmidt No Time, Now #5

Schmidt not only didn't move an inch, I never heard him go on the chip. He's pushed back.

Nobile's shifting was easy to hear since he was on a single. I didn't hear much wrong but he needs a to pick up a bunch.

Left Lane: Mark Hogan Runs 6.890/201.85, Now #3
Right Lane: Dave River Runs 6.929/199.64, Now #4

Left Lane: Bob Benza Runs 6.751/204.85, Now #1
Right Lane: Richie Stevens Runs 13.138/64.34, Now #7

Stevens' car heads for the wall and he's off the throttle by 100 feet. Benza puts down an efficient-looking pass.

Left Lane: John Gaydosh Jr Runs 6.887/199.85, Now #5
Right Lane: Erica Enders Runs 6.713/206.39, Now #1

I don't know what to think about the weather. The low temps and humidity are great things, but I can't remember the last time I saw such a low barometer here in the Midwest.

Erica's car also wanted to go right, but she was able to keep it from getting too far out of the groove and saves the run. That puts her on top for a few minutes.

Left Lane: Steve Spiess No Time, Now #12
Right Lane: Justin Humphreys Runs 6.655/207.15, Now #1

Bad luck for Spiess as something blows through the lights and a really bogus (3 second?) ET comes up with no speed recorded.

Humphrey is giving us a hint of what's out there for the taking. It's critical for a Pro Stock team to get good data tonight since tomorrow morning promises to be the best session by far.

Left Lane: Ronnie Humphrey Runs 6.637/207.78, Now #1
Right Lane: Vinnie Deceglie Runs 6.702/206.76, Now #3

6:11 p.m. and we're back from a short delay to double check the timing system.

Humprhey puts the Pontiac on top.

Left Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.653/206.89, Now #2
Right Lane: Rickie Jones Runs 11.869/72.89, Now #13

Rickie has the same problems as the others in the lane, but will make the highlight reels. The car headed to the rightand Rickie brought it back but possibly overcorrected a bit as the car then moved from the centerline back towards the wall, rocking up on one rear tire in the process. He somehow managed to get it settled down without hitting anything.

Left Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.630/207.69, Now #1
Right Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.647/207.27, Now #3

Wow, deja vu is wonderful. Bob Glidden's racing his Mustang here and WJ is low qualifier.

Just kidding. Of course there's a bunch of fast cars still in staging.

Left Lane: Bob Yonke Runs 6.656/206.61, Now #7
Right Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.650/207.46, Now #4

That was a great side by side. And classic Pro Stock at that, since in this case .006 seconds is worth 3 positions on the list.

Left Lane: Rodger Brogdon Runs 6.657/206.54, Now #9
Right Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 6.618/207.98, Now #1

Brogdon looks pretty racy but Grey takes the show with this one. Big speed and super ET. These days it's good to be Johnny Gray.

Left Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.616/208.17, Now #1
Right Lane: Ron Krisher No Time, Now #25

Not only did Krisher leave before the tree came down, but the right lane bit him bigtime as the Cobalt stood up and headed for the wall. He lifts.

Stanfield fires a shot for the little guys.

Left Lane: Shane Gray Runs 6.633/207.98, Now #5
Right Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.611/207.94, Now #1

This is a real duel of the horsepower guys, and Line says Summit still has something for the new kid.

Left Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 10.337/86.47, Now #23
Right Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.634/207.85, Now #6

One more pair of arch rivals, but Jeggie says he's the one to answer to.

Anderson slowed at half track, and I couldn't see or hear from here what might have happened.

Left Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.601/209.46, Now #2
Right Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.596/208.46, Now #1

And these two guys are pretty fast themselves. Edwards wants to remind us all that he's still here. The battle goes on.

Morgan holds on to the 12th spot with a 6.653.

Round 2 Qualifying

Sat, 4 Sep 2010, 04:02 PM

Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Session #2
By Dan Bennett

CLERMONT, Ind. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 56th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals presented by Lucas Oil

listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Right Lane: Steve Schmidt No Time, Now #29; No Prior Run

Well, we just had a really good motorcycle session, so things could get interesting here.

Speaking of interesting, the track prep was different than I'm used to seeing. We didn't have the tractor dragging the first 100 feet, but I did see the four wheeler spraying VHT on the top end. Hmmmm.

Schmitt leaves before the tree fires so we'll have to wait for the next pair to get an idea of what we'll see.

Left Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.602/209.20, Now #3; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.620/209.17, Now #7; No Prior Run

And this is a pretty good pair to test the waters, so to speak. I have to believe that Greg would rather be later in the session, but his bypassing the scales after a broken run in the first session put him here.

Greg's pass looked pretty strong down low, as he carried the front wheels at least 300 feet.

Greg Anderson's incremental times: 60ft-0.995 sec., 330ft-2.771, 660ft-4.249/166.44 mph, 1,000ft-5.525.
Ron Krisher's incremental times: 60ft-1.002 sec., 330ft-2.785, 660ft-4.267/165.86 mph, 1,000ft-5.544.

V. Gaines is on the bump spot at 6.647.

Left Lane: Steve Spiess Runs 6.664/207.43, Now #18; Best prior run: 28.000/0.00, Was #30
Right Lane: Mark Martino Runs 14.057/64.67, Now #30; Best prior run: 16.362/100.07, Was #29

Martino spun hard and turned right.

Spiess looks good over in the left lane but a 6.66 is not going to do the job.

Left Lane: Vincent Nobile Runs 6.685/205.44, Now #20; Best prior run: 7.013/205.57, Was #27
Right Lane: Richie Stevens Runs 6.682/206.86, Now #19; Best prior run: 13.138/64.34, Was #29

Stevens is in the Elite Motorsports GXP and it's always good to see a driver of his talent getting a well-deserved ride.

Both of these cars looked a bit lazy down low, as they didn't make a strong charge to the 330.

Vincent Nobile's incremental times: 60ft-1.001 sec., 330ft-2.791, 660ft-4.292/163.85 mph, 1,000ft-5.588.
Richie Stevens' incremental times: 60ft-1.010 sec., 330ft-2.809, 660ft-4.302/164.93 mph, 1,000ft-5.592.

Left Lane: Mark Hogan Runs 7.285/146.38, Now #28; Best prior run: 6.890/201.85, Was #27
Right Lane: Rickie Jones Runs 6.651/207.11, Now #14; Best prior run: 11.869/72.89, Was #29

Jones is in the other Elite Motorsports car and hasn't been to the finish line under power yet this weekend.

I'm not sure why Hogan slowed. Jones doesn't get into this field but would be there if this was the last session.

Left Lane: John Gaydosh Jr Runs 6.838/200.41, Now #27; Best prior run: 6.887/199.85, Was #27
Right Lane: Dave River Runs 6.870/200.38, Now #28; Best prior run: 6.929/199.64, Was #29

Take a look at the speed here and compare it to the fast guys in the class. These two racers need more power to be able to knock heads with the rest.

Left Lane: Kevin Lawrence Runs 6.793/202.73, Now #26; Best prior run: 6.812/196.73, Was #26
Right Lane: Bob Glidden Runs 6.743/204.01, Now #24; Best prior run: 6.782/204.94, Was #25

That's another career best for Glidden but it's not nearly enough. The run looked fine with no obvious problems.

Bob Glidden's incremental times: 60ft-1.011 sec., 330ft-2.812, 660ft-4.331/162.04 mph, 1,000ft-5.638.

Left Lane: Bob Benza Runs 6.721/206.45, Now #24; Best prior run: 6.751/204.85, Was #25
Right Lane: Erica Enders Runs 13.426/79.79, Now #23; Best prior run: 6.713/206.39, Was #23

Erica has her hands full. The setup is way off as the car stands up and torque steers to the right. She has to lift and is coasting at 100 feet.

Benza picks up 3 hundredths but needs more.

V. Gaines is still on the bump spot at 6.647.

Left Lane: Rodger Brogdon Runs 6.644/207.98, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.657/206.54, Was #18
Right Lane: Vinnie Deceglie Runs 6.673/207.56, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.702/206.76, Was #22

Brogdon finds just a small bit but it's enough for him to bump it for the time being.

Rodger Brogdon's incremental times: 60ft-0.993 sec., 330ft-2.782, 660ft-4.273/164.93 mph, 1,000ft-5.559.

Left Lane: Bob Yonke Runs 6.641/207.08, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.656/206.61, Was #18
Right Lane: Justin Humphreys Runs 12.186/63.99, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.655/207.15, Was #17

Humphreys leaves, and it's OK for the first 30 feet but then shake sets in. Yonke bumps Brogdon.

Left Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.654/208.17, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.653/206.89, Was #17
Right Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.669/207.72, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.650/207.46, Was #15

Morgan in a Ford, KJ in a Pontiac. Is this Bizarro world?

Johnson headed to the right but never left the groove.

Left Lane: Ronnie Humphrey Runs 6.622/208.49, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.637/207.78, Was #11
Right Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.607/208.68, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.647/207.27, Was #14

Gaines started the session on the bump, and even with this great weather he's only down to the 14th spot.

Very nice shot for V as he goes deep into the order. Humphrey picks up two spots.

Left Lane: Shane Gray Runs 13.671/46.63, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.633/207.98, Was #11
Right Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.591/208.68, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.634/207.85, Was #12

I was focused on Coughlin's yellow streak and missed what happened to Gray. The Jegs car even looked fast!

Jeg goes to #1 and Shane is now on the bump.

Left Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.612/208.46, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.630/207.69, Was #11
Right Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 6.616/208.36, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.618/207.98, Was #8

Warren usually does well here, and it seems like he's going to continue pulling a rabbit out of his hat.

He gets deep into the 6.60s with Gray just behind.

Left Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.595/208.91, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.616/208.17, Was #9
Right Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.587/208.81, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.611/207.94, Was #6

These guys are not kidding around. I was really impressed with Stanfield's pass since he seems like he can run with the big money teams from time to time. But then I looked to my right and saw that one of the big money teams just stole his thunder one more time.

Greg Stanfield's incremental times: 60ft-0.982 sec., 330ft-2.757, 660ft-4.240/166.29 mph, 1,000ft-5.517.
Jason Line's incremental times: 60ft-0.986 sec., 330ft-2.755, 660ft-4.231/166.50 mph, 1,000ft-5.509.

Left Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.587/209.75, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.601/209.46, Was #5
Right Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 13.527/50.25, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.596/208.46, Was #4

Johnson runs the same as Line, but his speed is going to give him the top spot. Edwards just does miss on the setup as he's spinning hard the first 50 feet and the car slides right.

It wasn't as crazy as I thought it might be, but still a very good session. The fun thing is that we've still got three more.

Wish you were here.

Weather conditions: air temperature 78 degrees, relative humidity 33 percent, barometer 29.16 inches, adjusted altitude 2,622 feet, track temperature 99 degrees.

We just saw a good session in Motorcycles, and some of the racers ran fairly close to their best times from yesterday. We're still enjoying exceptionally good weather, with the added bonus that the barometer is beginning to recover and the air is drying out quickly.

Pro Stock track prep these days amounts to a quick spray on the top end so it looks like the season's earlier problems with down track traction has been addressed.

It's Sunday, so we're qualifying the full 16.

Due to bad runs in the last session, we start with a couple of Mopars that we're used to seeing much later in the session.

Deceglie doesn't get up on the tires and the car torque drives to the right. Johnson goes to the top.

Left Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.602/209.62, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.602/209.20, Was #8
Right Lane: Mark Martino Runs 6.722/205.76, Now #13; No Prior Run

Martino also has problems off the line. Anderson repeats from his earlier best.

Left Lane: John Gaydosh Jr Runs 6.836/200.62, Now #15; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Bob Glidden Runs 6.703/205.91, Now #13; No Prior Run

Glidden seems to have a guest on the starting line as John Force is standing directly behind the car. He runs good enough for the 13th spot for now, but I don't think he'll stay there.

Vinnie Deceglie is on the bump spot at 13.436.

Left Lane: Kevin Lawrence Runs 6.789/202.73, Now #15; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Steve Schmidt Runs 14.325/55.21, Now #18; No Prior Run

Schmidt doesn't get off the line very well, as the engine bogged, coughed, and grunted. Wrong gear?

Lawrence gets in and puts Gaydosh on the bump.

Left Lane: Vincent Nobile Runs 6.668/206.35, Now #14; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Richie Stevens Runs 6.642/208.68, Now #13; No Prior Run

Nice pass with big speed for Richie. Nobile's right behind him.

Richie Stevens' incremental times: 60ft-0.992 sec., 330ft-2.788, 660ft-4.279/165.23 mph, 1,000ft-5.562.

Left Lane: Mark Hogan Runs 16.374/41.74, Now #22; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Erica Enders Runs 6.673/206.83, Now #15; No Prior Run

Martino is now on the bump, which is changing every pair in these great conditions. At this point in the session, you need to be going in at 10th or better to have a chance to remain when the dust settles.

Hogan goes nowhere and clicks it off by 150 feet. Enders gets in but not enough to be confident in her chances. She puts teammate Bob Glidden on the bump spot at 6.703.

Left Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 12.535/67.39, Now #21; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Rickie Jones Runs 6.632/207.85, Now #13; No Prior Run

These are two very good racers to not be qualified. I have to believe that Jones' absence from the tour has hurt him.

Morgan goes left and shuts off. Rickie (the Kid) bumps Glidden (the Legend).

Left Lane: Rodger Brogdon Runs 6.621/208.10, Now #11; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Justin Humphreys Runs 6.631/207.27, Now #14; No Prior Run

Brogdon is another racer who we wouldn't have expected to see on the outside this far into qualifying. He has all the tools but has continued to have problems with getting a good pass when he needs one.

It looks like his problems got a lot better as the car is very racy off the line and looks good the entire length of the track. He bumps into the 11th spot while Humphreys follows him a couple of slots back.

Left Lane: Bob Benza Runs 6.633/207.59, Now #17; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.618/207.85, Now #11; No Prior Run

Richie Stevens is now on the bump spot at 6.642.

KJ seems like he was ready to run hard since changing to WJ's spare GXP, but it hasn't happened so far this weekend.

That all changes quickly as Kurt lays down a very quick pass and Benza just misses.

Kurt Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-0.990 sec., 330ft-2.767, 660ft-4.251/165.78 mph, 1,000ft-5.535.

Left Lane: Ronnie Humphrey Runs 6.633/208.59, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.622/208.49, Was #13
Right Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.580/209.95, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.587/208.81, Was #5

AJ is still on top over Jeg by MPH at 6.580

The KB Racing cars put on a show. Line reels off another 6.580 but has to settle for second. Ronnie, who was right alongside Jason most of the track, takes over 13th.

Ronnie Humphrey's incremental times: 60ft-1.002 sec., 330ft-2.789, 660ft-4.273/165.80 mph, 1,000ft-5.553.
Jason Line's incremental times: 60ft-0.990 sec., 330ft-2.759, 660ft-4.232/166.99 mph, 1,000ft-5.506.

Left Lane: Bob Yonke Runs 6.632/208.14, Now #16; No Prior Run
Right Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.584/209.56, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.606/209.10, Was #9

V looks REAL strong and better than he has for a very long time. That was a good looking run from the first turn of the slick!

Yonke takes over the bump spot, putting Rickie Jones on the outside with one session to go.

Bob Yonke's incremental times: 60ft-1.002 sec., 330ft-2.784, 660ft-4.268/165.78 mph, 1,000ft-5.550.
V. Gaines' incremental times: 60ft-0.993 sec., 330ft-2.765, 660ft-4.240/166.83 mph, 1,000ft-5.512.

Left Lane: Steve Spiess Runs 6.627/208.07, Now #15; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 6.590/208.91, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.593/209.01, Was #7

Gray repeats with his 6.59, and Spiess finally gets a decent pass for the 15th spot.

This is classic Pro Stock stuff, fans. There's a new bump spot every pair and it's fun to watch it happens.

Bob Glidden is towing back in front of the stands - and is getting a standing ovation. Cool.

Left Lane: Shane Gray Runs 6.606/208.68, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.623/208.30, Was #14
Right Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.591/209.65, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.586/209.56, Was #6

Gray steps up, Krisher falls back. A couple of hundredths is worth 4 spots.

Left Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.608/209.17, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.609/208.55, Was #11
Right Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.579/209.14, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.585/209.26, Was #5

Edwards does what he has to and takes over the top spot by the least margin possible. That's why there's a big #1 on his car.

WJ stays put but is looking consistent. In my mind, that's a huge step forward for that program.

Left Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.584/209.14, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.594/208.68, Was #8
Right Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.598/209.23, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.580/209.39, Was #4

Stanfield steps up, and Jeg stays put.

That was a good session, with one more to go.

Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Final Session
By Dan Bennett

CLERMONT, Ind. - Notes from final, round 5 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 56th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals presented by Lucas Oil listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Steve Schmidt Runs 6.704/192.80, Now #24; Best prior run: 14.325/55.21, Was #29
Right Lane: Mark Hogan Runs 6.845/204.32, Now #28; Best prior run: 16.374/41.74, Was #30

4:10 p.m. This is going to be a very steep hill to climb for those who are very far out of the 16th slot. We're getting back to the Indy weather we're used to.

Left Lane: Vinnie Deceglie Runs 6.649/207.82, Now #21; Best prior run: 13.436/60.85, Was #30
Right Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.722/205.72, Now #27; Best prior run: 12.535/67.39, Was #29

Justin Humphreys is on the bump spot at 6.631.

Morgan spun all the way through first, with the car kicking to the side when he hit second. Neither of these two Mopars will make the show.

Vinnie Deceglie's incremental times: 60ft-0.998 sec., 330ft-2.784, 660ft-4.277/164.69 mph, 1,000ft-5.564.
Larry Morgan's incremental times: 60ft-1.013 sec., 330ft-2.818, 660ft-4.324/163.45 mph, 1,000ft-5.625.

Left Lane: Mark Martino Runs 6.738/204.98, Now #26; Best prior run: 6.722/205.76, Was #26
Right Lane: John Gaydosh Jr Runs 6.876/199.73, Now #29; Best prior run: 6.836/200.62, Was #29

Two smooth runs, two more racers loading up.

Left Lane: Bob Glidden Runs 6.731/205.22, Now #24; Best prior run: 6.703/205.91, Was #24
Right Lane: Kevin Lawrence Runs 6.814/202.52, Now #28; Best prior run: 6.789/202.73, Was #28

I haven't heard anything about Cunningham's plans but hopefully this won't be the last time we see Bob Glidden here on the track. To say he's made an impact on the big crowd here is an understatement. For a racer who never got an official send off tour, it's gratifying to see the crowd on their feet in respect of one of the best racers ever to go down this track.

As with the others, these two run about 3 hundredths slower.

Left Lane: Erica Enders Runs 12.930/67.86, Now #23; Best prior run: 6.673/206.83, Was #23
Right Lane: Vincent Nobile Runs 6.715/205.72, Now #22; Best prior run: 6.668/206.35, Was #22

Just as we expected, that 6.63 is looking further and further away with every pair that pulls to the line.

Erica drops the clutch and the rpms don't change. She's off the throttle before second gear. Nobile needed .03 but lost .05

Left Lane: Richie Stevens Runs 6.632/208.39, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.642/208.68, Was #20
Right Lane: Bob Benza Runs 6.650/207.50, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.633/207.59, Was #19

These two don't need much, but with conditions slowing things down they may be in the same shape as all the others.

Stevens' pass looks much better than any other so far, with the front wheels dangling part way through third gear. He misses by the slimmest margin possible.

Richie Stevens' incremental times: 60ft-0.982 sec., 330ft-2.771, 660ft-4.264/164.99 mph, 1,000ft-5.550.

Justin Humphreys is on the bump spot at 6.631.

Left Lane: Rickie Jones Runs 6.678/207.27, Now #19; Best prior run: 6.632/207.85, Was #19
Right Lane: Bob Yonke Runs 6.735/201.70, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.632/208.14, Was #18

Left Lane: Justin Humphreys Runs 6.659/207.21, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.631/207.27, Was #16
Right Lane: Steve Spiess Runs 6.655/207.82, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.627/208.07, Was #15

Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.674/207.05, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.618/207.85, Was #12
Right Lane: Ronnie Humphrey Runs 6.622/208.65, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.622/208.49, Was #14

At this point we're simply finalizing the order. Everybody left to run is already qualified.

That was a very nice run for Humphrey. Interestingly, the cars sounded like a single car going down the track as the shifts were almost exactly at the same time.

Ronnie Humphrey's incremental times: 60ft-0.993 sec., 330ft-2.778, 660ft-4.262/166.05 mph, 1,000ft-5.542.

Left Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 8.906/106.65, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.590/208.91, Was #8
Right Lane: Rodger Brogdon Runs 16.265/49.53, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.621/208.10, Was #13

Brodgon's Pistonator stands up and heads for the wall.

Gray gets wacky further down the track.

And, once again, Glidden is getting a standing ovation as he stands on the back of the golf cart coming up the return road. Like Frey is saying, it may be the first time in history a non-qualified racer has received that kind of tribute.

Left Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.594/209.62, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.586/209.56, Was #7
Right Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.754/206.39, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.608/209.17, Was #11

That was remarkable. Krisher's car made WJ's GXP look like a Super Gasser as it blew away from himit from the first inch of movement.

Ron Krisher's incremental times: 60ft-0.985 sec., 330ft-2.759, 660ft-4.242/166.11 mph, 1,000ft-5.519.
Warren Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-1.018 sec., 330ft-2.841, 660ft-4.362/162.53 mph, 1,000ft-5.662.

Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 14.947/44.09, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.584/209.56, Was #5
Right Lane: Shane Gray Runs 15.487/41.91, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.606/208.68, Was #10

OK, we're officially back to Indy mode. Both cars went dead right and both lifted, almost in synchronization. The track is not liking all this sunshine.

Left Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.631/209.07, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.580/209.39, Was #4
Right Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.625/209.26, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.602/209.62, Was #9

No improvement, but good runs for the session.

Jeg Coughlin's incremental times: 60ft-0.995 sec., 330ft-2.782, 660ft-4.270/165.72 mph, 1,000ft-5.552.
Greg Anderson's incremental times: 60ft-1.009 sec., 330ft-2.785, 660ft-4.267/166.03 mph, 1,000ft-5.546.

Left Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.601/209.56, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.580/209.95, Was #3
Right Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.622/208.39, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.584/209.14, Was #6

Jason Line's incremental times: 60ft-0.990 sec., 330ft-2.764, 660ft-4.244/166.17 mph, 1,000ft-5.523.
Greg Stanfield's incremental times: 60ft-0.996 sec., 330ft-2.771, 660ft-4.257/165.52 mph, 1,000ft-5.540.

Left Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.623/209.14, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.579/209.14, Was #1
Right Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 12.263/70.36, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.580/210.28, Was #2

Krisher's pass was huge, looking back on it. AJ's rpms start singing high C and the car heads to the right. He steps off by 50 feet.

Edwards gets some more data and gets ready to go to war tomorrow. It's been a great race so far and will only get better from here. Thanks for stopping by.

Coughlin has a lifetime four to two advantage over Brogdon, but Roger has a 2/1 advantage in round one.

Brogdon gets a small starting line advantage, but its not enough to hold off the charging Coughlin. He gives up lane choice to Gains in the next round.

0.020 6.624 208.75 ........................0.037 6.690 205.82

Edwards has a six to one advantage over Humphreys, all in round one.

Humphreys' car moves around a lot right off the line and that's all Edwards needs. He slows from his prior best, but will keep lane choice over Anderson in the next round.

Stanfield has a 6/2 advantage over Johnson. Winning in all four round one encounters.

Stanfield gets a small advantage off the line and the car starts to move around. He gets it back in the groove and just stays in front for the close win. Line will have lane choice later.
Greg Stanfield's incremental margins: 60ft(0.024), 330 ft(0.025), 660ft(0.027), 1,000ft(0.027). MOV: 0.0253 seconds (approximately 8 feet).
