Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #1

COMMERCE, Ga. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 32nd annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Right Lane: Daniel Wilkerson Runs 4.282/287.23, Now #1
4:44 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 86 degrees, relative humidity 52 percent, barometer 29.26 inches, adjusted altitude 3,341 feet, track temperature 119 degrees.
This is Wilkerson's first time out this season. He comes off the line, the rear of the car starts wagging around about 300 feet out, but he stays on the throttle all the way through the run.
Left Lane: Blake Alexander Runs 4.190/296.89, Now #1
Right Lane: Jim Head Runs 4.243/284.93, Now #2
Head was on a decent pass but it looked like something happened just before he went through the lights. Alexander goes right down the groove and takes the early pole.
Left Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.193/296.31, Now #2
Right Lane: Todd Lesenko Runs 4.608/193.74, Now #5
Pedregon made a decent pass but was moving around a little near the end of the run. Lesenko was on a decent run but lost power about 700 feet out.
Left Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 4.216/279.21, Now #3
Right Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.273/289.26, Now #5
Both drivers were on decent passes for the first half of the run, then both start mixing up cylinders.
Left Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 7.432/85.06, Now #9
Right Lane: Bob Bode Runs 4.298/287.96, Now #7
Wilkerson gets about 200 feet out, strikes the tires, then backs off the throttle. Bode goes right down the groove and gets in the seventh spot for now.
Left Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 4.251/296.37, Now #6
Right Lane: Courtney Force Runs 4.227/298.34, Now #4
A pretty good side-by-side, both right down the groove. Force gets in the fourth spot for now, Arend in the sixth.
Left Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 4.121/302.35, Now #1
Right Lane: John Force Runs 4.261/287.05, Now #8
Tasca goes right down the groove with the quickest pass of the round so far to take the top spot for now. Force makes a clean pass and lands in the eighth spot for now.
Left Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 4.327/286.98, Now #13
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.135/304.19, Now #2
Pedregon goes right down Broadway and gets in the second spot for now. Gray made a decent pass but was falling behind Pedregon all the way through the run.
Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.216/292.58, Now #6
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.160/304.53, Now #3
Two good looking passes, both going right down the groove. Capps moves into the third spot for now, Beckman gets in the sixth spot.
Left Lane: Mike Neff Runs 4.582/181.86, Now #17
Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.140/299.86, Now #3
Neff gets about 600 feet out and looks like he bangs the blower. Hight made a clean run and gets in the third spot to end this session.

Left Lane: Todd Lesenko Runs 6.581/101.38, Now #18; Best prior run: 4.608/193.74, Was #18
7:04 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 84 degrees, relative humidity 53 percent, barometer 29.22 inches, adjusted altitude 3,294 feet, track temperature 110 degrees.
Lesenko gets about 300 feet out, has to pedal, then gives up on the run about 500 feet out.
Left Lane: Bob Bode Runs 4.996/160.08, Now #16; Best prior run: 4.298/287.96, Was #15
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.138/303.23, Now #3; Best prior run: 7.432/85.06, Was #19
Wilkerson makes a full pull this time and moves all the way to the third spot. Bode was out in front early, then lost a cylinder about 300 feet out and lost power.

Right Lane: Johnny Gray No Time, Now #17; Best prior run: 4.327/286.98, Was #17
Hagan makes a nice pass but was moving around a little near the end of the run. Gray puts out a couple of cylinders on the left side about 600 feet out, starts moving to the left, then takes out the ET timing block and will receive no time.

DeJoria dropped a cylinder, drifted to the right, but stayed on the throttle and made a decent pass to move up to the seventh spot. Head looked like he may have lost a cylinder late in the run but still improved and moved up to the ninth spot.

Right Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.152/305.77, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.216/292.58, Was #12
Force was moving around early in the run but got it straightened out and moved up to the seventh spot for now. Beckman drifted a little to the right but was able to keep it away from the wall and moved into the sixth spot for now.

Hight makes an impressive run and takes the pole for now. Alexander makes a clean run but slows from his earlier attempt.
