Glove Box Door

I am starting to restore the glove box door on my GTX. It appears that someone else has tried this. On the metalized plastic, someone has oversprayed some black on it.

Does anyone know any way to remove the black from the plastic without harming the plastic itself, thus keeping its shine?

Ya. It appears that there is plastic trim inserted into my glove box door, and I can't remove it. It is plastic, and it is shiny. It may not be chrome, but it is shiny.
