noisy fuel pump?
noisy fuel pump?
Hey all, trying to figure out why my fuel pump is ticking loudly when running. the pump is about four years old, and has been used very little. the slapping noise is actually coming from inside the timing chain cover. I know it is not the chain because i hear it the loudest where the fuel pump enters the motor. Any advice would be appreciated, it's a 1970 dodge dart 318 2bbl. thanks
so get this, i replaced the original fuel pump four years ago just to be safe. My grandfather never replaced the fuel pump so this one was original equipment. I saved the original because, well, it still worked. I popped it back on and no noise. I guess that goes to show you that a new fuel pump, made in china, can't stack up to one made in American that is forty-one years old.

Dart, I've been banging this drum for a while now! YOU JUST CANT TRUST THINGS ANYMORE!!! This is very true for water pumps. They just dont flow like the factory. So folks start throwing big $$$ aluminum radiators at them, and STILL have problems! The early 440 source aluminum wp housings had outlets that were smaller than the factory. You just cant assume anymore. Even the aftermarket brands we grew up with cant be trusted anymore. My only advice is to do your homework on things. It's a shame that Made in Japan and Taiwan are actually the quality parts that I look for, compared to Mexico and China!
so i have a question then. i do want to replace this fuel pump it is only a matter of time before it fails being that it is really old, so what brand would you recommend. I found an airtek and carter from summitracing. not really sure, any ideas.
